I am a newbie!!!!!

   I am a first timer- not quite sure what I am doing at all yet... Guess I just wanted to put me out there a bit for people to see and hear. Maybe a lil bit of advice would be great on what exactly this stuff is..... lol- sorry- not trying to look like a fool so no meanies please. I am clear on posting stuff and all but was wondering what the money part of it is and how long should my hub be?? Do I add to it when I want to put me out there again, or do I start a new hub???? And any other advice would be great too!!!

      Welcome to Hubpages, KNC!  The HubPages learning Center is the best place to get started here.  Anything else you don't understand may be asked in the questions forum.  Don't be shy, most here are glad to help if you've already read the learning center info.

      Dear kids - RUUUNNNNN!!  Stay out of the religious and political forums unless you want to get your head bitten off just for having an opinion.  If you are a sarcastic egoist, then you'll probably fit in there.  You might be intrigued at first by the sandpit but the games are redundant and boring, strictly timewasters.  Tech questions/forums can sometimes be informative but in general HP forums have degraded and it seems like some of the intelligent writers have gone to sites with higher standards or just gone away.  I'm on my way, too.  Good luck.

   Welcome. I have one advice- Make hubs, and visit the forums less. Forums are for when you really want to converse something, use it to minimum, because we don't tolerate useless gossip over here!
   
   And secondly- Start to follow as many people as you can. And leave everyone a nice and gracious Fan Mail. You will surely get readers for whatever hub you make.
   
   And thirdly- When they comment on your hubs: DO give a nice reply. It will boost the thing. Welcome to hubpages.

   ..If you have any religious queries, or doubts, or misunderstandings- then you can post a thread on the 'religion and philosophy forums' section. We have some expert hubbers on religion and those stuff.   They are very friendly and nice. I guess they will really make your day.

         Seriously.  I haven't heard any of them, with all due respect.  There are a few who try to get an intelligent comment in but they are buried in the overall tone of argumentation and sarcasm.

            One doesn't need to participate in forums to be able to read them.  I challenge you to find just one religious or political forum on HP that contains a majority of intelligent comments.  I'll even agree with you if you can find a 50/50 balance.

               What is your point?  If "one" never paid attention to any discussion because "some" of them were not intelligent then "one" would never learn anything.  What is your educated guess as to the ratio of intelligent to non-intelligent people here, and in which group would you place yourself?  Think hard now!

                  Oh, hi, that's cute.  Because one uses the language differently, it's a cause for ridicule.  Since you commented after my comment, I assumed, perhaps wrongly, that you were referring to me.  If you were not, than I apologize.  If you were, you insinuated I drew my conclusions from my own experiences in the forums and therefore considered them the norm.  Participating in a forum would be my experience.  I did not consider as part of my experience those forums in which I have not participated, only read through.  It's not difficult to read the nastiness and I would estimate the comments about 75-25% in favor of nasty, glib or inane comments.  That does not speak to the hubbers' intelligence only to the forum comments.  A person can be highly intelligent and also sarcastic.  So, yes, I am about 128 IQ, not MENSA material certainly but it doesn't really take intellect to recognize polite discourse and that which is not.

                        When all else fails, go for the sarcasm.  As I said, a person can be intelligent and lack understanding.  A person can be intelligent and belligerent.  A person can be intelligent and sarcastic, failing to use their intellect which may have become blocked by defensiveness.  Thanks so much for proving my point.   
                        
                        IQ doesn't always measure intelligence accurately because it's based on a set of criteria which may not encompass other sets.  I am highly intelligent, highly creative, as well as being physically beautiful (as judged by the general population over a 60 year span), multi-talented, understanding, kind, and joyful. I don't set myself above or below others with regard to potential.

   I wasn't trying to start a rukus- Wow!! Was just looking for some comments on the site and a little advice. I read trough the learning center stuff and I got all that but on a personal basis was just wondering what the "acceptable" was.

      LOL no rucks, this is just how the forums are here. Some people can't just leave simple advice, they feel the need to stir up all manner of drama.  Don't be afraid to come to the forums and ask questions but before some smart a^^ chimes in, do a search to see if the question has been asked and answered recently.
      
      My advice would be to stay away from the strictly personal types of hubs.  Hubs are not the same as a blog post, they are unique content that may be informational and you may use personal anecdotes but you want to avoid content that's main focus is on personal(to you) subjects such as: rants about your boss, the amazing/terrible day you are having, how great your kids are, etc... Like I said though, you may use anecdotes that contain those subjects within a more informational hub.  Of course, there are also hubs that are purely written as poetry or recipes and those are acceptable as well.
      
      Try not to use hubpages as a blog.  A blog is written more like a diary where here, every single page needs to stand on its own merit.
      
      Good for you for going to the learning center, most new members just jump right in without even checking it out.  Good luck too and welcome to HP.

   How long should your Hub be?  There are many opinions on that subject and here is a recent forum thread with a lot of good advice:

   The 'money part' will take some time to accrue.  It's really important to incorporate SEO into your Hubs so that you will receive traffic from search engines like Google.
