goes to Democrats for 2011. Republicans received the "award" for the past 2 years. According to Politifact, the lie of the year is the one about Republicans' voting to end Medicare:

Factcheck pretty much agrees with Politifact's assessment:

Fair enough, Habee. Thanks for posting. IMHO you are one of the most reasonable participants in this forum.
But Ryan's plan did nothing to reduce the skyrocketing rate of increase in health care costs. It merely shifted future cost increases onto the backs of future medicare eligibles.
I tend to agree with you on that, Ralph. I just didn't think the ads that displayed "Grandma" being pushed off a cliff in her wheelchair quite fair. I'm on Medicare, also, and I've been pretty happy with it. Since I retired early from teaching, due to a disability, I'm also covered by my teacher's health insurance. There are going to have to be some changes made to Medicare, however, if we want it to continue.
I personally think they should leave Medicare alone. There is a mandatory percentage taken out of paychecks for Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. It gripes me that ever election this platform is used. There should always be money in these accounts due to the fact that more money is really put in these accounts than should be paid out. Seniors in my opinion already have enough headaches without having to worry whether they can go to the doctor.
The worst part of it is that you work all your adult life, pay their taxes, and when you go to collect you NEED A LAWYER just to get what you worked and PAYED for!!!!!!
I'm benefiting from Social Security and Medicare without needing to consult a lawyer. Both are working great as far as I'm concerned.
Are you on disability or did you retire? There is a big difference.
I've "retired" three times, first from a job in the private sector, second from the Federal Government, and third from the state of Michigan. And I'm currently working part-time.
I understand your comment wrt needing a lawyer to collect SS disability benefits.
Geo, I'm on SSDI and teacher's retirement. I didn't have much trouble getting my SSDI approved. I wrote a hub about it, which might provide you with some tips.
Hi,
I come from a different geographical locality and my comments may not be to context entirely. But I do feel that with the economic pressure building on the Governments it is a dangerous tendency even to introduce the topics of Social Security (subsidy in any form, whether as subsidized medical cost, insurance or medicare benefits) to be questioned in any forum. To make Social Security a matter of electioneering debate, is to suggest it is not an inviolable assurance that a Welfare state gives its Citizens. That in itself is a Civil offence against the Citizen.
However, rarely we look upon it like that. We, the Citizens rarely look upon the other Government expenses (like the huge hullabaloo for decades on disarmament and yet no action!) which like White Elephants drain the exchequer, as redundant and bring public opinion to bear on these issues. Naturally our apathy to be discerning or even concerned about how the political parties all are actually being quite unanimous in side-tracking the main issues. It is the hard-earned small security of a quite retirement, a little medical care of the Old that must bear the brunt of any economic down-sizing to begin with - whether this be political propaganda or not, this has been considered and is being talked about. How dreadful!

I'm curious what everyone thinks of the cuts planned to lower the deficit. In my opinion they are aiming them all at the elderly and poor. What does everyone else think?
