Are you for " If it makes you feel better", or do you think it's just a waste of time? I admit, I didn't think much of it at first, however, when men started doing it....I became a little baffled. I think it's become too much of a "Trend" now. It used to be something exclusive to those that had money, now it seems like everyone is trying to get it. Personally, I think it's tacky. I don't ever really think of any legit reasons to do botox, unless you have a Ptosis or something of that nature. Otherwise, it just says that you're afraid to embrace your natural self. However, I can understand the opposite side as well.
The production of Botox involves animal suffering for each batch that is released.
When Botox is used to treat painful conditions such as torticollis and other neurological diseases, there is a valid question of whether animal suffering can be justified to relieve human suffering.
When Botox is used cosmetically, I personally believe there is no argument. It should not be allowed, because the animal suffering involved cannot justify the use of the preparation for the purposes of vanity.
If anyone is interested,in a previous incarnation, when I was still in employment and known by a different name to the name I use now, I wrote an extensive report, published in 2003, on Botox. The report is called "Growing Old Disgracefully: The Cosmetic Use of Botulinum Toxin" and is available at: http://www.frame.org.uk/dynamic_files/botrill.pdf
BTW, I get no financial compensation from people viewing the report!
I've scanned this report Writeangled, and bookmarked for more concentrated reading later. My sister was diagnosed with Allports Syndrome some years ago, or at least her symptoms were recognised as consistent with Allports.
As an animal lover, I have always been against unnecessary and undue testing on any animal. Having said that, I recognise that scientific experimentation on animals has saved my sisters life, in terms of transplant, rejection medication etc. So, from my point of view, human survival will always trump that of animals.
I'm afraid though, that vanity and the suffering of animals should not be synonymous, as they appear to be. There is something truely wrong with a society that believes that it's ok for an animal to experience complete paralysis or pain, so that some vain (or deeply insecure individual) can ward off crow's feet!
What has happened to society? If the glossy magazines were filled with the atrocities of animal experimentation, as opposed to "how to achieve the perfect forehead, cosmetically." We might, eventually, eradicate the desire of some cosmetics companies to inflict this unnecessary suffering on animals.
The use of botox will mean that the older someone becomes and therefore the more botox they have, the less able they will be to blow out the candles on their birthday cakes. However, a recent survey revealed that 54% of women will have cosmetic surgery in their lives, so botox, as a "softer" option is bound to prove to be even more popular.
I think cosmetic surgery should really only be used for more medicinal purposes. More corrective, rather than just for luxury.
I think there is a fascination on TV with makeovers, whether resoting to surgery or not. The 10 years younger programme is on daily, where women are seen being criticised for daring to get old, and everything that cosmetic surgery offers is made to seem like a reasonable option.

OK, I'm not fishing for any compliments here but I changed my profile pic. I really liked the one I had which I think looked more professional but due to the fact that I am going through a midlife crisis. I changed the pic to what I think is a newer, hopefully (haha) younger looking version of me...
