I can't help but wonder how many first-time visitors come by each day and end up running away as fast as they can.

I think it's reached the point where it is costing HP serious money.

There's enough forums about religion but are there actually that many new religion related hubs being published?

Who knows? My point is that first-time visitors show up, get the wrong impression, and run away instead of signing up.

This thread is interesting and important, but I'll have to excuse myself from it because I need to go make some religious comments on a Wall Street Journal article, a local news-article about the economy, an ABC news piece, and the site I've set up as my own professional-writing site.  After that I'm going to write a Hub, "How to Turn Your Facebook Page Into One, Big, Religion-Fest".

.  . . and pass the ammo, baby!  so many great posts here have pointed me toward the Bible in order to solve everything, including my writer's block! I need to do some research before I can join the debate, but I do believe this is a major Christian site, is it not?  and therefore discussing writing is taboo - there must be somewhere in the Bible where god said that.  I'll find it.  Just a mo . . .

mega1posted 12 years agoin reply to this

I don't see what my post has to do with PCunix - unless you mistook my sarcasm for misinterpretation - and in either case you are wrong - PC is right on about things, IMO, and you are one of those who, when people have an opinion that doesn't agree with yours, you accuse them of misinterpreting or some other daft thing!!  If you think HP should have even more religious threads in the forums, then why don't you just say that instead of making personal attacks?  one of the things that I and others object to about the religious discussions here - they turn into excuses to adrenalize and make personal attacks on others who don't agree  - you're not the only one who does it.  I don't call that "discussion"

I have been here only a week and was just thinking how all I see or that gets exposure is religion or other silly hot topics. You have to search for something worthy. But still think HP is a good place as it lets people be and share their creativity.

  14. Eric Newland profile image61
    Eric Newlandposted 12 years ago

The problem is that most everyone here is a writer in some capacity, so they're eloquent and cautious enough not to let things get out of hand. On normal forums every religion thread quickly degenerates to a flamewar. It gets locked, people get banned, and everyone else is able to get on with their lives. Here people can keep threads marginally civil for hundreds of posts.

And yet, if you read between the lines, they're all essentially still saying "u suk f***** [adherents to opposing belief system] r ritarted"

    1. Pcunix profile image91
Pcunixposted 12 years agoin reply to this

I disagree,  Not everyone on either side is saying "u suk".  Yes, that's much of it (because that's the highest level most can reach) but every now and then we do have intelligent discussions about our differences.

I can get angry at religious posts and get quite nasty in response.  Yet I do not bear any dislike for theists in general and am sympathetic to and defensive of their beliefs.   At some level, I am sad that they need to believe, but I do understand that need.

On the other side, a strong theist may at times be angry with atheist comments, yet also defend our rights and also be sad that we can't share in the happiness they think religion gives them.

We do sometimes talk about those things and the only "u suk" in  those conversations is when somebody with a smaller brain barges in to spew some idiocy from one side or the other.

Mine too. I also think if someone comes on here for the first time, they may just think it's a religious site. And the religious hubs are not creative, many just quote scripture so much it should be called duplicate content.

You are trying to start with me because I can misquote scripture, aren't you?
Well, it's not going to work.
I asked Jesus what he would do.

I'd say that there might have been a wandering preacher by that name who was later used as a base for stories.

He certainly never died and came back to live, walked on water or turned water into wine, so in that sense, he definitely did not exist.

As to his sayings and philosophy, these are more likely a compilation from many other sources going back who knows how far, so again, largely or even completely fictional.

I called HP a writer's site once and someone was quick to say, "No, it's not, it's a content farm!"

I don't think you can put labels on something this big and diverse.

I'm glad I feel that way, anyway, because the first label I came across concerning HP was that it was a site occupied primarily by low income women.  Labels aren't cool!

Thanks for bringing the thread back onto topic.  paradigm's assertion that this isn't a religious site was starting to turn into the (gulp)same ol' religious discussion!  And we wouldn't want that, would we?!  God forbid anyone should even discuss RELIGION!   LOL.  I find this whole thread very ironic.
