    many of us grew up eating aw cookie dough as we were making the Christmas cookies. Now there's a report warning people against this habit.

    How often have you told yourself, I've eaten raw cookie dough for years and I never gotten salmonella poisoning. I'm not afraid of a little egg in a batch of super-delicious cookie dough. Well, what if we told you there's an even scarier outcome than salmonella if you consume the raw batter, and the egg is not the one to blame.
    Researchers have just discovered that the most likely culprit of a 2009 multi-state E. coli outbreak (which sickened 77 people) came not from the egg in raw Nestlé Toll House cookie dough, but the flour. Karen Neil at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention lead the investigation, which was kind of like an episode of CSI.

        You're missing my point.
        Or is this just for sensationalism ?

        Why even be afraid of a pastuerised egg?

        The notion of being afraid of a pastuerised egg is laughably ridiculous.

        Even more so is making cookies from a package. Yuck.

              Yes, and asked at my supermarket.  None of the eggs they had were f the pasteurised and waxed type.

                  Indeed.  Only red stamped "P" eggs are guaranteed pasteurized.  I can't get them, and I want to as I like squishy breakfast eggs.

    The explanation is quite obvious, but the prospect of the cookie dough being contaminated would have never occurred to me. Thanks for this information.

    This is exactly why I stopped eating raw cookie dough.
    Now I only eat cookie dough ice cream.
    I figure the little germie thingies are frozen and can't hurt me.

    Seriously. This is great news for tableside Caesar salad fans everywhere!

    Thank you for this informative post. I can't imagine why anyone would actually have to be warned not to eat raw cookie dough. Seems to me that is right up there with use your seatbelts and don't smoke. Even if it didn't have the potential to give you salmonella and E. coli, it is still more sinister than safe with it's major ingredients being the three white deaths... sugar, salt, and flour.
