Six Month-Old Hubs

   Hello.
   
   Some hubbers say that after six months, traffic on a hub will take off.  Is this true and why?  I know Google likes content that has been published for a while, but I am just wondering how much of a difference this makes.  Is it a gradual increase in traffic with age or does it jump up at six months old?

      6-9 months is a general estimate that more experienced online writers give to new writers to help them understand that writing online doesn't earn you money or get you traffic overnight.
      
      However in actuality, this figure isn't correct. It's just an average.
      
      I've had articles that have started getting good traffic from the first day. And I know of people who've had stagnant articles for over a year, before a sudden surge in traffic.
      
      Some articles will NEVER get traffic, for one of two reasons.
      
      1. They are on topics that no one is searching. You may rank #1 for 'Purple pigeon poo' in Google, but if no one is looking for it, you'll never get traffic.
      2. The topic is saturated. That means that there are SO many other websites and articles on the internet about that very topic that it's almost impossible for you to rank well enough to get serious traffic.
      
      Google does like older content, but it also likes backlinks and new content. And you'll find that the older your article gets, generally the more backlinks it will get, either internally (through the hub suggestion tool) or if you're lucky, from readers who liked your article. If you get comments, these also add to your content and increase your chance of more Google traffic.
      
      Another reason people are told 6-9 months is that even if you work at it, it can take that long to learn how to write an article that WILL bring traffic. As I learnt what people were typing into Google, I'd often laugh at some of the titles I had on articles and go back and change the title or other content as I learnt new things.

         Thank you, WryLilt.  I was confused why the six month mark was so significant and now I understand.  I have been getting a surge in traffic from Google, which has now surpassed my HP views, so I was just wondering if I hit the mark or not.
         
         Thank you so much for taking the time to write out your answer.  I often laugh too at the silly keywords that end up being helpful.

   According to admin's analysis of site-wide stats, it takes most Hubs three years on average to reach their peak of traffic and reach.

   Like WryLilt, I have had articles get good google traffic within a day.  More often though, it takes a little bit of time. 
   
   I would love to see how they do in  few years.  It will be interesting to see.
