What are your thoughts on Madonna for the half time show for the Super Bowl? Madonnas has promised no nipple (when she was on the Jay Leno Show). What are your expectations?

As Madonna ages and she is in tune with her health and fitness, I have a new found respect for her. I was surprised at the quotes that I have read about this astute business women. I thought she was just all glitter, bra and bangles but she is shrewd. She wants to be shocking and she knows it and best yet she knows it will pay.

Her third try at directing may prove disastrous. I am anxious to see the movie about Wallis and Edward aka W.E.

I don't wee why she shouldn't be performing, she's a living legend and her stage show would suit the Superbowl spectacle.

Like some other halftime presentations, this one was visually stunning.  I liked that part.

I also liked the incorporation of marching bands, pom poms, and cheerleaders, though there was too much ego on display with the self-referential chants to Madonna (is that part of an original song?  Sorry, I don't know her recent music).

For the musical part, it was just OK.

You make a great point - the chants of "Madonna" - over the top promotional.

The coordination for the visuals alone I thought were magical. I don't know how they did all that in 12 minutes.

Would love to know the cost of the visuals alone.

I'd say give her a chance. She might be aging, but she's still got some magic left in her...

    I think they're okay
If they don't give me proper credit
    I just walk away

They can beg and they can plead
But they can't see the light, that's right, that's right

Some boys romance, some boys slow dance
    That's alright with me
If they can't raise my interest then I
    Have to let them be

Some boys try and some boys lie but
I don't let them play, no way, no way
Only boys that save their pennies

Madonna and the Super Bowl half time show was absolutely spectacular today.  I did not expect to be so impressed by every aspect of the show, although I was!  She and the other extremely talented entertainers showcased in the Super Bowl half time show were amazing and every moment was perfect.

I think Madonna’s half time show was the best performance offered by the NFL for the super bowl in years. She and her producers really hit a home run, and I’m not much of a Madonna fan.

The Top Commercial spot has to go to Doritos again for the “Missing Cat Bribe” followed up by The Voice spot with Betty White and then the Yogurt Head Butt.

I honestly thought LMFAO and Nicki Minaj were better than Madonna.  Visually the show was great but I didn't enjoy Madonna's performance apart from when she did 'like a prayer' with Cee Lo, that was better.  It's probably because I'm not a Madonna fan.

I wish I could say that I enjoyed the whole performance, but I didn't.  I know it's because I don't care for Madonna, or that type of music.

I didn't even realize who most of the others were who were singing with her until this morning, but I still don't know who LMFAO...(lmfao) lol

My favorite halftime performance was when The Who performed--I loved them!  I guess that explains why I didn't care for last night's then--a completely different type of music, lol.

When I was watching and right after, I was on Twitter and people started trending blame Janet and Justin. I blame them but I blame the NFL as well. Even though so many people are quick to judge Madonna's performance, I think what they NFL was trying to do was include everyone. I personally don't like Football that much so the halftime show and the commercials are the only reason I tune in. But since the SuperBowl is one of the few things families watch, I can see why they pick her. She's from a certain generation but most people know who she is by name alone. However, her audience isn't watching the SuperBowl in large numbers. But then again, it's always going to be hard because as much as they want young and hip that audience isn't always watching so much as Tweeting or YouTubing during breaks. And older audiences want stalwarts but they always don't put on the best shows. You can't make everyone happy and the NFL is going to have to realize that and stop trying to play these gimmickry games.

It was horribly boring.  Too many people in it and just too much techno crap.
Whatever happened to just entertaining instead of trying to make a political statement?

What did you think of the ending "World Peace"?

        1. profile image61
logic, commonsenseposted 12 years agoin reply to this

I think world peace is great, just does not make sense at a football game, where 2 sides are trying to hurt each other.  How many people watching went away thinking "man, I gotta do something to help world peace"?  What most were thinking is "thank god that's over, now  back to the game!"

      Alecia,
I concur completely. The SuperBowl is such a cultural thing - it is a must for families. The commericals and the half time involve everyone including myself. I also like the rings - oh, my blingy side is showing!

You are right the babyboomer group demands the stalwarts and the broad appeal.
The problem with the half time show is what works in the stadium doesn't necessary transcend to the television screen. As a peformer trying to electrify both the live audience and the tube, I think Madonna excelled.

The rapper who flipped the bird and gave the finger is a sign that we as a society must stand up and say no.

Ironically Madonna has issued a video out on YouTube, herself, asking for people to clean up their act. Madonna had stated she was nervous about what she couldn't control. The rapper had a great opportunity which I hope the media doesn't reply with notoriety - remember the rapper did it for attention - let's not give attention to the bad. The rewards MUST be for the best, we as a society must ignore the bad behavior and send a clear message we don't want you as part of our society.

The controversy created by people wishing to exploit themselves for attention grabbing devices is sad.  We must speak up and praise the hard working and ignore the bad apples.

Somewhat of a letdown. The staging was spectacular. Madonna, not so much. Tired old songs, heels were so high she couldn't perform physically as well as she might have and IMO that would have added to the show. But seeing everything around her being so energized and she, not being able to dance around all that much because of those stupid heels, kind of disappointing. She looked awkward.

However, I give her big kudos for getting where she is at 60 yrs.old? She looks fantastic and I still like her.

I loved her performance and thought Niki Manaj and MIA should have done something else other that touch themselves and strut back and forth.  I loved CeeLo and LMFAO, who were both on point.  Like all artists who perform on the Half Time Show I thought it was appropriate that she sing past songs and her current single.

I wasn't thinking "thank god that's over", I was thinking that was one of the best Half Time Shows they've had in years!

I thought it was fine. I was glad to see Madonna not try to act 20 years younger.
Not the most impressive half time show I've seen, but not too bad.

I liked the world peace at the end. The halftime show isn't so much about the game, but for the global viewing audience.

I'm not a Madonna fan, but I thought it was one of the better halftime performances I've ever seen. The stage was incredible, there were plenty of guest appearances, and the choreography was excellent. Of course she did mostly old songs because those songs are the ones she's most known for. The Super Bowl halftime show is not for Madonna fanatics, it's for a much more general audience.

Madonna's show wasn't even fit for a general audience, considering a lot of kids AND adults watch the SuperBowl.  Are we supposed to be grateful there wasn't any "wardrobe malfunctions" or lesbian kissing or crucifying Jesus from her corner?  Heck no, because the lewd dancing/grinding/costume-flipping and the "performer" who flicked her middle finger at everyone was bad enough.   Is most of America so immune to radicalism that they still idolize people who deliberately mock or insult them?  I do wonder.

P.S. Are you really D.B.Cooper?  wink

Madonna is actually huge in terms of a World wide audience. She would have been better if she only sang her older stuff that was popular. What impressed me was the fact that she sang entire songs instead jumping from one song to another and never finishing the song like they usually do. Other then that she is still Madonna and I am not really a fan.

I don't know about anyone else, but the media fandom community did a collective "Bzuh? Squeee!" Madonna was essentially remixing a remix by one of our more famous members:

Whether she knew it or not is currently a subject of hot debate. smile
