How are people successfully back linking their articles?

   I have been on hubpages for about 2 weeks now and am trying to learn successful backlinking strategy, but what I read is very mixing. Some people say to spin articles and submitted to other sites, while others are using paid websites to do back linking for them. Some say just write quality articles and it will come naturally. How are you backlinking and what do you recommend?

      I just keep writing good articles and linking to related ones when I've got multiple articles in the same niche that might appeal to the same audience. Unfortunately I've had to stop doing that since Hubpages is pretty strict on linking to your own stuff, no matter how relevant! I think you can cross-link to other hubs, though, as long as they're really relevant-- that is, people who read one article would probably be interested in the other.
      
      I often Tweet my hubs, but I don't consider that a backlink, at least in the sense of "helps your page rank better on search engines." This may be starting to change, but links shared on social sites are usually NoFollow, so search engines don't count them. Google is starting to take social media signals into account if the link is shared by someone really important, someone with major clout and a following, but I doubt any of us get that kind of consideration. .
      
      I am a little more conservative about back link building than a lot of people who practice SEO. With on-page optimization like keywords, I can tell if my strategy is working by looking at stats to see what keywords are bringing traffic. But with backlinks, we've got no way to measure which backlinks actually help SEO. All we've got to go on is tips from official google blogs like Matt Cutt's. From them, we learn that search engines are trying not to let their results be manipulated by artificial, phony, or purely self-promotional linking practices -- in fact, that is the definition of web spam in the secret Quality Raters Guide used by Google Raters to test ad refine google's search algorithm.
      
      Google also discounts paid links, according to Google's webmaster guidelines and Matt's blog. I wouldn't waste money and risk paying for links. Search engines are also getting better at detecting article spinning.
      
        They are trying to count backlinks which are sincere recommendations, from a relevant page to a relevant page.  I'm 95% sure that at this point, all the search engines are sophisticated enough that a backlink from non-relevant content doesn't count: if you're writing on sushi, they want links from pages on food preparation, fish and Japanese cuisine, not from pages on toothbrushes!

         Can you clarify what you mean by that, GG?  I'm not aware of any restrictions on linking to your own stuff, beyond the "two links to the same domain" rule.  I have several dance Hubs where I've linked to two or three of my websites in the same Hub, with no trouble at all.  And I interlink my related Hubs all the time.

      Do NOT spin your content and post it other places.
      Do NOT pay others to get links for you.
      
      DO write quality content once, post it as a hub and others will share it for you because it's awesome.
      DO get backlinks yourself through social networks, social bookmarking sites and other sites you are on or run yourself.  But don't overdo it or post the links in places where people wouldn't be interested in that info.

         Links on social bookmarking sites have limited value and it's debatable whether they're worth the effort - because to be effective, you can't just bookmark your own stuff, you need to camouflage your links by bookmarking a lot of other sites too.
         
         Why limit yourself to other sites you're on?   It's impossible to "overdo" creating links on other sites - there's no such thing as too many backlinks.  The only way you can "overdo" it is if you post your links on sites where they're not welcome.
         
         Other ways which do work: 
         
         - Join forums where you can include a link or links in your signature. 
         - Join forums relevant to your Hubs, become a trusted member, then start offering a link to your Hubs in answer to people's questions.
         - Look for blogs on related subjects and offer to do a guest post (including a link to your Hub).
         - Join other revenue-sharing sites and write articles on the same subjects, linking back to your Hubs.
         - Leave comments on blogs about related subjects

   hi Avan welcome to HubPages. Backlinking, there are many strategies used. People post on Fb, Twitter, social bookmark sites, forums, other blogs. I don't always use single articles per se but do use my profile url. Writing articles with your HP url in the author bio points to HP is a popular backlinking method spinning articles well, maybe it's ok to read it but least rewrite it into your own words copying is bad joo joo not sure if this helps but least food for thought

   There is no restriction to interlinking your own hubs as far as I am aware.
