Why is it that the word minimum for a hub to receive any honor is 500? Is there a good reason for this other than elitism? I feel that if one can express what they have to say in 350 words, and express it well, why should that not be appreciated?
Perhaps we can have a "Micro Hub" category for hubs, especially short stories, that are less than 500 words. Any reason why not? There is such a thing called "Micro Fiction," or aka "Flash Fiction."
Beware using the word "elitism" here on HP as it doesn't mean the same thing it does everywhere else. Here, it means the "belief of greeting newcomers"!

The word minimums exist because of how Google looks at Hubs and determines value in content. If search engines didn't put credibility in the length of original text on a web page, neither would HubPages.
Why am I being told in other platforms the minimum length should be 400 words? I know for many of the blogs I write they have a maximum length. They are telling me not to publish anything over a thousand words. They are also saying to cut "tags" to a minimum. This seems to be working with blogs outside hub pages. This includes those with less than 400 words.
Even a few of the newer hubs with a good summary are being picked up by search engines, with only three keyword phrases. I am also wondering why ads placed on ad boards which have under 200 words are being picked up by keywords and placed page 1 by Google?
My concern is with poetry where coming up with 500 words is not the norm. But I guess we can pad with artist statements about the poetry that ruins the vibe and the mojo.

On another thread, a Hubber suggested that if HubPages had a minimum word count, it would prevent some spammers.I know that a very low word count can get a Hub flagged as substandard, but perhaps it's set too low at the moment?

Lately there have been plenty of hubs that are totally useless to the hubber community. There's a lot that can be done to make the life of the moderators easier.I just used the hopper again and took a note of the major problematic hubs:Just plan advertisement hubs -- Get rid of them by...

I have been here on HP over 3 years, and still don't fully comprehend the concept! I get that they are words and/or phrases that reflect the content of your article, aren't tags, and that they're not to be 'stuffed'. Apparently I have some block to this, since some of my articles have...

Alright, so in an effort to improve both traffic and conversions, we should explore whatever myths or curiosities some of us may have. People have often said that an article's length defines quality, at least to the search engines. Personally, i dont believe any of it. Sure, the more words you have...

We have added a feature to the Search tab under the stats box on each Hub that enables you to see when that Hub that has last been crawled by search engines. When an Idle Hub is crawled, search engines will see that it has a noindex tag, which indicates to search engines that the page should not...

I understand you've decided to take a cue from Squidoo and you've chosen to make at least one rule unclear on purpose. It's creating more work for everyone and alienating the people who produce the content you sell ads on by either making it clear you don't trust or respect us or that you are so...
