What's your favorite style of swing and boogie woogie dance? (And does anyone want to enlighten me on what boogie woogie is? All I know is that it makes me smile to say it smile

My hubby and I are pretty hard-core into Lindy. It's my current favorite, but there's so many other great options-- East Coast, Balboa, West Coast, Peabody,  Charleston, Jitterbug, Carolina Shag, Collegiate Shag, Blues, and so on and so further.

We love Lindy because of the up-beat tempo, great moves, and awesome venue for musicality.

Which one do you love and why?

You guys have a very special gift. I'm 70 and lived through all the great era's. Modern music doesn't even classisify as music any more. Worse, it's socially destructive. I've spent literally billions of words trying to bring young people into the great world of music I've known with very little success. You guys don't know how lucky you are.

Stick with it, it will bring you a lifetime of incredible, good, clean, fun you couldn't buy anywhere for 100 billion dollars.

But now, now that your "in the loop", it's your civic duty to educated the rest of the world. You wouldn't believe how important your kind of music is to your society. Kids growing up with the wrong kind of music can and will, literally destroy your country.
      Go get-em tiger...

I doubt you'll get a lot of responses here, dancers are a bit thin on the ground on HubPages!

I do ballroom and Latin with my husband. We did Ceroc for a while (which is a kind of simplified modern jive) but we get bored going to a function and doing the same style of dance all night.   For the same reason, we haven't ventured into Swing though we go to a Big Band night once a fortnight and love watching the Swing dancers, they're so smooooooth.

I've always been partial to the Fox Trot and the Quick Step a la Fred & Ginger.  But put me with music and I'll dance to it.

We had a swing dance every year when I was in college and I always loved to watch the really good dancers there, but the only one I know is the Charleston. And I know it badly. sad

I'm not sure I have a favorite style of any other type of dance either - I pretty much love it all! I studied ballet for about 10 years and modern, Javanese, and Irish Step on a more casual basis. I'd love to try ballroom and some of the other ethnic styles someday. I've always admired Spanish flamenco and Indian bharatnatyam, for example.
