I am aware that this cannot not be directly changed but would unpublishing, copying, and republishing the hub be a LEGIT way to do this?

I just published the hub and realized there is one word that is in the link I wish to change. If theres no way, I'll live with it but...

You cannot change a URL on a hub.  I have read in the past that URL does not seem to make as much difference in search/traffic as the title.  A lot of us tweak titles, especially on under-performing hubs. Some hubbers change hub titles to attract different seasonal traffic.

Thank you rmcrayne. In this case, it's not traffic I'm concerned with...well sort of...

There is a word in my url that may lead some to believe the hub would not pertain to them. I was unaware of this when starting the hub and since changed the title. It's not a make or break situation, just wondered if there was a way to clear it up but agree. All I've read says no.

Thanks again for confirming my thoughts.

If you really want to, you can create a new hub, delete the old hub, and publish the new hub after the old hub is no longer stored in Google cache. If you publish the new hub earlier, you may run into duplicate content problems.

Ahh, didn't think about that. Thank you.

Unless the word is totally misleading you really do  not have to go to such trouble. I have a hub that is totally off, actually my first and the URL is not even a proper word (lol that was how dumb I was) and yet after learning about tweaking and title change I had changed the title and it still gets me my best traffic.
I noticed that you said  -  the word in your URL may leave out some people.. but people are not reading your URL - they read your title. I hope this throws some light on the dilemma you are facing.

Thanks sofs. I've dug around and you're correct. There are only a few scenarios where the full url shows so it doesn't seem it will be a big problem.

To eliminate the vagueness of this question and inform you who've chimed in...should you ever write about our SERVICEMEN or VETERANS, using the word soldier, COULD alienate certain branches of our military. I was unaware of this. The hub was intended to help/inform/support all branches and was concerned some may miss out due to my being naive.

It's not considered offensive, just that some may just think..."this isn't me"

Great, unpublishing and creating a new hub makes your hub loose whatever it has gained in terms of aging and SERP ..  It may just not be worth the effort.
Thank Goodness that we can still save our hubs!  I am happy for you.

Having a slightly inaccurate or redundant keyword in the URL is not really the issue, as far as ranking. What counts is that the important keywords be present in the URL. If the "lesson" taught in this thread is that the URL is insignificant, then bad advice is being given out. The URL is in fact important, so it is worthwhile thinking carefully about that when creating hubs. At least, if search engine optimization is a priority.

Noted. I've since spoken to a few veterans about the extent of the "damage" this may have caused and it seems I was a bit overly concerned. However, I will certainly be more careful about this in the future.

...the word has been changed everywhere else in the hub though. :-)

The idea here is not that an URL is unimportant.. to say the truth there is no keyword in that hub URL that I am speaking about ...but that was long before I knew anything about writing articles for the internet. Who knows with  a better URL it would have fetched me better results..
What is being said here is no one is really reading your URL and you have the ability to tweak a hub and make it as relevant as possible to the title.. as long as it is not totally misleading. I believe those are the words I have used..
