    This became a very interesting thread, I'm glad I posted the question. My politics are very obvious, however a friend of mine for whom I have the utmost respect put the following on Facebook. I fully agree;
Sadly, those that need to read this, probably won't, or won't think it is about them. But if you are posting anything of extreme or generalizing politics, you are the part of the problem we are experiencing. If you cannot realize that someone can have an opinion different than you, but not be wrong or evil, then you do not understand the concept of opinions. A lot of these debates going on are debates because both sides have valid points. To treat the other side of a debate like their points are not worth listening to is to close off any chance to work together.

So, if you post things of liberals being being dumb/communist or conservatives being evil/stupid, you are removing any chance to discuss and work on the differences. There are extremists on both sides, idiots on both sides, but there are also really nice intelligent people on both sides. If you can't except that, than you need to grow up. What we need now is to work together, but those things polarize the topics to a point that no one is listening because they are too busy pretending their opinions are facts and the other sides opinions have no place in the debate. Get over yourself.

    Signed,
one who sees both sides have validity.

Brought to you - successfully - by COMPLETELY capitalist means!

Yes, capitalism has a monopoly on just about every thing.

      Monopolies are bad.

that was such an epically foolish statement.

          Was it? Why?

In the UK Thatcher privatised the utilities to introduce competition. The problem being that there is no competition, just inflated prices whoever you buy off.

I don't see the validity of that.

In general I am not an advocate of socialism (not the forced kind anyway), but I can't help wondering if we would be sitting here contributing to this forum now if it hadn't been for the original government funding of the early precursors to the Internet (which were developed for defence purposes).

So I am asking: do you think the Internet would ever have developed under a completely libertarian system?

Yes. It probably would have been invented decades ago if the government hadn't been stealing wealth for centuries upon centuries.

So I wonder how socialist programs are working out in European countries? Greece? Not looking too good...

...not sure about what 'potable water' is - butt

Capitalism, although at it's best, is a good thing ---> allowing one to pursue a business and compete with another(s).

However, these days [and for some time], Capitalism has become totally one sided.
You cannot compete with these companies [not people].

And, If you are able, they will band with their 'friends' to push you out legally, BUT not in any moral/value way.   I'm not sure, sincerely, how they can talk so much about the man, Jesus, because they do not act according to his ways, ever!

They have let us with no other choice but to do it without them.   HEY, we have power more than we know.  We do not need the things they sell at the amount we are buying!   We can start to 'do it with each other' and not invite them...... for a change.

    D~

'Potable' basically means 'drinkable.' In this context, it describes water that hasn't been tainted by chemical or biological hazards, that is, water that won't make you sick if you drink it.
