What exactly is pinging? I read girlygirls earlier post about pinging. I have no idea what it means.

I have visions of randomly pinging (something) across the internet and am worried I may be ponged back.

And it's the pong I'm worried about.

    www.pingomatic.com

It notifies various crawlers that your site, in this case, hub has changed (or been created).

It should help your hubs index fast.

Funny, I just learned of pining too and from GirlyGirls earlier post...lol I found a few other sites from a google search on auto pinging.

All it actually does is send a sort of signal to sites that update blogs.  It allows those sites to know that you have new info up without them checking back and giving a false page impression which could interfere with adsense impressions.

GirlyGirl is right, it does help index your articles quicker and I can't see why it would be against HP rules as it brings in traffic without cheating the adsense program.

I have seen little or no change in my hubs after pinging, so I would like to ask where do you ping?

If you are paying for hits then you don't have to worry about promoting wink but pinging I guess is like alerting others of new content hmm big_smile

You got it right DameScribe. It was used primarily in blogs to update the crawlers when there's new content. IT DOES NOT REPLACE PROMOTION. It simply gets your pages crawled faster.

The thing is hubpages (with it's high PR) is crawled often. Your hubs are sure to be crawled fast even without pinging manually.

I have noticed that when I update a hub it gets pinged automatically and my score goes up, (if I get the SEO better.) I do not understand why it usually goes down first, then rises over the next few days though.

The ping sites I use provide a space to put your hub name, the URL and any RSS feeds.

Hi Cashmere, smile I enter both my profile and RSS urls. As for traffic, it comes from emails, referrals and SE's hmm
