Englebert is 75 years young and last had a hit record 40 years ago.  Do you think that the BBC should have picked him, or should they have given some younger, emerging talent a chance.  Mind you the contest this year in being held in that well known European city of Baku in Azerbaijan, so things have definitely changed from Abba days in 1975!

Well seeing the UK haven't won it since, well since sliced bread was introduced, they probably have a better chance with this crooner - my Mom used to live about 15 minutes away from him!

It's not the song or the singer any more. The Eurovision Song Contest is totally political with each country's panels voting for either their neighbor, on whose good terms they want to stay, or for a country they are trying to do business with.

Yes or Gerry Dorsey if you want the original.
My claim to fame is that I met him some twenty five years ago
He will no doubt have the backing of his home city Leicester!

Had some thoughts this morning on what it would take us to win:

    1. Sign EU treaty on being nice and not spending money
    2. Give lots of money to Europe
    3. Lose Sovereignty
    4. Re name country
    5. Sack Capello (OK we did that one)
    6.????

Then we could put up the dream team of Wills and Kate miming to something slushy

    Might win then?

Hey she might not be the prettiest woman in the world, but she can sing!

She would win the contest easily!

I have a lot of admiration for this woman, who is mentally challenged, (in case you didn't notice), just for sticking to her roots.

She's given up 'the mansion' and gone back to live in the council house she grew up in.

      God love her smile

Trouble is Izzy that a really good, successful singer wouldn't touch the Eurovision with a barge pole - it's the original poisoned chalice, the graveyard of many a promising career.  Probably makes Englebert the perfect candidate, as he is already drawing his pension

IzzyMposted 12 years agoin reply to this

Yeah but he's getting one last chance at boosting his earnings. I've been listening to his old songs again, and I bet he is finding himself thousands of new fans right now, and selling more of his albums. Who cares if he doesn't win the Eurovision?

Such a crooner. I always look and sing his song "Love Me with All of Your Heart" when I go to karaoke bars, sometimes it is still available. And I always hit 99 or 100 bec. I really feel it smile smile, woman version. My dads favorite too.
