My friend and I got into this huge fight because I said I would look better if I wasn't born so skinny. Of course she said I was only looking for a compliment (No I was not!) Frankly I could use some behind and chest. So any tips?

Doesn't work well. This is about personal metabolic system, which includes two opposite processes: synthesis and break-down. For our people, the process of break-down is faster. So, eating more is helpful, but not very much.

The only way to gain weight is to be in an energy surplus which is obtained by eating more. If you are eating in a surplus of 500-1000 calories and don't gain wait keep adding 500, and if that doesn't work go to a doctor and seek medical opinion on the matter. Basal metabolic rate isn't the be all and end all of energy expenditure its a part of it but other processes are involved, like hormones testosterone and leptin. The answer is eat more ... that's it no special answer.

Good answer.  It can help to eat more often instead of 3 regular meals.

Doesn't sound like anything to fight about. I used to drink a glass of Half and Half with my dinner when I was in high school-- to keep my weight up.
(Don't need to do that anymore.)

Ha ha. I drink whole milk instead of water daily. I actually got so used to milk that I dislike the taste of water. Thank you for the tip smile

Want to get a little bit more "roundness" somewhere in your body? I suggest drinking Maternal Milk Drinks... They are full of calories and nutrients (which was designed for the supplementing the mother and the baby) which will give you much of the good stuff that you need, plus the added weight. To be honest, I got a little big after drinking samples of that.. and that's why I know it works...

I'll look into it, sounds like it might work! I am always open to suggestions. Thank you!

Just eat more food. Try drinking coconut milk from a tin can, a can typically has 800calories for 400ml (I do this if I've slacked on my macro's for the day)easy calories there.

Thank you for your advice. I love coconut milk so maybe I'll do that. But is canned food healthy?

      1. Adamowen profile image68
Adamowenposted 12 years agoin reply to this

Well it's considered "Bad" because it has a high saturated fat content. The fat from coconut is 66% or so Medium-chain triglycerides which do not require energy to be digested by the body. So it is great to get in extra calories ... Canned food is fine in moderation like any other food, try drinking it once every other day at least as well as your other food and see how it goes. Add more if you wish in the future ... let me know how you get on and if you need any more help let me know!

I understand the plight... A few year ago I was working out 3 times a week, and eating 6k calories a day trying to put on weight, but it didn't work for me.

Mine actually has to do with food allergies. I've made some progress in the last few years, but that was a frustrating time for me. I was pounding down all I could eat, protein shakes, and weight-gainer shakes.

Well, I don't know if you smoke, but if you stop you might gain weight.

My daughter had the same problem - she was too thin but after increasing the intake of proteins in her diet she gained weight. Eggs and red meat are two ideal sources of proteins.

They (especially red meat) are also pretty full of saturated fats so you can gain weight but put your heart at a much greater risk ,..

I'm in the same boat .. weighed around 8.5 stone most of my life except for a very short vegan spell where it dropped to 7.5 .. soon quit that. I did get up to 9.5 the other year and looked and felt better .. however then discovered I had high blood pressure (200/140) so had to exercise and quit those fried egg sandwiches etc etc ... now back to 8.5. The problem is that all the food supplements which probably would help me gain weight are packed with saturated fats and I've also been told to keep my cholesterol down ... skinny till I die I guess sad
