I received this in my email today:

"hi honey, i hope you do not mind me going through your profile,i fine you very attractive and can only wish to get to know more about you, will be glad to read from you soon."

His username and email are of course visible in the email, I haven't posted them here since I'm not yet sure if I should be concerned-this is his first message.  I don't intend to respond to this, but wanted some advice from other folks here.  This is far from abusive (like in the forum thread by Deborah Sexton posted here):

But it's weird to me, even though it could be simply a gesture, an innocent one.  What do you advise?

Almost all of these are spammers. Don't respond; just click the 'spam' link the footer of the email.

A cry for attention. A plea for help. He actually wants a scholarship. To study.

That was my dog. I've since locked him up in the tool shed. Sorry about that.

How about I give ps's dog that scholarship, WE-then perhaps he'll quit spamming and get down to the books!

Good idea, Lorlie! It's about time to raise the dog's literacy level. I didn't know how to read it - like: "I'm fine, you're very attractive" or: "I'll fine you, very attractive!" The dog is into role play, maybe.

Oh GAWD, you two are priceless pals!  The boxer still doesn't get it, does he?  Eating the books is verboten!

Let me quit laughing for a minute so I can respond to the OP -

The language in the email you got is consistent with scammers on dating sites. Apparently, they're using any site they can find that has ways to email users. Sadly, people actually fall for these people, and they lose a ton of money when they start claiming their grandmother (or father, mother, child, whatever) needs surgery and they're trapped in a foreign country and need a ticket to get home. As well as money for the surgery.

Report it to the moderators, and flag the profile. They're probably sending the same message to a bunch of users here.

Thanks, Marcy, for chiming in on this 'getting strange' thread!  smile
But yes, seriously now...we've all received some doozies in our email, I'm sure.  They crack me up, but then I think of all those folks you mentioned who have indeed fallen for these bizarre tales, I feel sorry for them.  I suppose the best victims would be the elderly, or people who are very new to the Internet.  My use of these machines started only 2+ years ago, but fortunately I'd been warned by friends about such things.  Some of their creations are pretty amazing-quite creative, I must admit.
