On the names Bill Maher called Sarah Palin:
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/ … maher.html
BUT they had a field day with what Rush said. And before you even ask, yes, I did say on these forums that Fluke should have NEVER been called names. I can't stand Rush, but fair is fair.
It gets worse: I just read that David Axelrod will appear on Maher's show soon. Surely that can't be true!
You are so right Habee! He never should have called her those names.
Yet many here join in to call Limbaugh much worse. They make fun of his weight and other issues, but I guess that okay to do if you are a Democrat.
Palin has been subjected to far worse names and innuendo than Fluke, yet all the liberals here think that just fine and dandy and even pile on.
Maher knows he has done worse to Palin than what Limbaugh did to Fluke and that is why he is encouraging liberals to accept the apology.
Ahhh...I wondered why Bill was so eager for libs to accept Rush's apology.
Maybe because he was fired from a job for speaking his mind. Looks like the same may happen to Rush.
That's your free-market at work. Russshhhhhh is now messing with da money.
Don't blame liberals...blame Rush's big foul mouth.
Limbaugh's not going anywhere...He's got the number one show on radio, Carbonite's stock dropped 12% in one day after they pulled their ads from his show. You're always the first to say it aren't you...money talks.
I'll take that bet.
He's a goner.
He can go to satellite radio like Stern...then we'll see how many fans he has when they have to pay to hear him.
Where exactly do you get the information that you use to form your "opinion"? I'd like a link to look at what you've found that convinces you that he's a "goner".
History.
And the wrath of those he has demonized for decades. Boycotting is a good tool. It worked on Howard.....and public pressure got Maher and Imus fired.
There is a way...and he broke the camel's back this time.
No--I told you I'd take that bet...that's it!
We'll see if it happens.
Yes we will. When he doesn't get fired I will be expecting a "you were right, I was wrong" mea culpa.
"A group of female military veterans issued a statement on Monday calling for Limbaugh's show to be pulled from the airwaves of the American Forces Network. AFN is a government-run media service that provides television and radio programming to American service members overseas."
Panetta has too...does that count if his show is pulled from specific stations, or does he have to leave Clear Channell altogether?
You're comparing a public political figure to a college student. What if those comments were made about your daughter? A daughter in college bringing forth an issue she feels to be important.
I agree, but that college student is a 30-year-old activist. I hate to see ANY woman called degrading names. I hate to see men called personally demeaning names, too, but women have had to struggle so hard for equality, and I still don't think we've actually achieved that yet.
And I haven't defended Rush. In fact, I think he should be fired!
Your boy Romney could do that with one phone call.
Maybe I need to email him. As you probably know, Rush hates Mitt. Of course, that makes me like Mitt more.
Does Rush actually like anybody?
(Aside from himself.)
Or said more than "it's not the language I would have used"....
Give me a break.
Maher is a comedian and Palin was the GOP nominee for VP. Limbaugh is an influential GOP political commentator who let loose a three-day hateful diatribe against a young woman law student who dared to express her opinion on an issue important to many women. (I'm not defending Maher's insult of Palin but merely distinguishing his gross remark from Limbaugh's attack on Ms. Fluke.) BTW, Habee, you haven't given us an account of your breakfast with Romney. Did you get your picture taken with him? Did you get a peck on the cheek or at least a handshake?
Limbaugh is an entertainer, just like Maher. Maher is the one who thinks he is influential political commentator. He wants liberals to accept Limbaugh's apology cause he knows he is not without sin himself. Funny how liberals can dish it out but can't take it.
I'm guessing Limbaugh would not have said a word about Fluke if she wouldn't have been testifying that she needed taxpayer money to fund her contraceptives. She had the cheapest contraceptive available but she didn't want to use it. The word "No". Instead she claimed the right to others hard earned money to fund her sex life.
Limbaugh should never have called her those names. But last I heard this was still a free country and he has the right to say stupid things. Doesn't mean he should say them, but so far free speech is protected. The rest of us are not required to listen. In fact as with any bully, if you ignore them, they will eventually go away.
Fluke needs to get done with school and start earning a living so she can pay her own bills. She's 30 years old for Christ sakes and still in college. Probably wants the taxpayer to pay her student loans as well.
She was testifying about her friend, who had a cyst grow on her ovary because contraceptives were too expensive for her to afford. Fluke doesn't want women to have cysts grow on their ovaries because men don't like women to have sex.
That is the issue. Womens health takes a back seat to men's problem with females having sex.
logic - IMO, you nailed it and well said. I remember clearly that all the name calling started by the Dems when W took office, not to mention the disrespectful acts. The Reps were stoic for a long while and when the grapevine started telling them to give it back and they did, the Dems howled and cried like damn children. They can't take what they've been giving for years.
As far as Rush is concerned, I think he went a little off after he got his implant. He seems to be more distasteful now then he was even 5 years ago. Still like him though because he has the most clear and unique perspective of both sides of Congress.
And you're right about Maher being the darling of the liberals and his wanting to be the voice of political commentary.
Hi, Ralph. I wrote a long description of the experience on another thread.
Well Maher did issue a huge apology and lose his job...
Maher apologized for his 2008 comments and lost his job? I think you're wrong. Maher was "fired" in 2002 because of his comments about 9/11 and for comparing mentally handicapped children to dogs. He started a new show, Real Time, in 2003, and it was renewed for another year in 2011.
Maher was fired for remarks he made regarding 9/11, not the remarks he made about Sarah Palin, he still has a wildly successful show on HBO.
1. Maybe because Maher's remarks are in the past and not worthy of their comment at this point?
I mean, have far back do we need to go here to find a "Well, he said mean things too..." comparison. When, frankly, there is none.
Calling Fluke a slut the first time was uncool. But spinning a sexual fantasy wanting her to do a porn video and basically getting off on that on the air ... that is where Rush really closed the line.
Can hardly compare that to snarky remarks about a public figure (Palin).
2. Re: Axlerod. Why not? He's making the rounds. On Chris Matthews' show as well.
9 hrs of attacks on this woman for wanting women to be saved from cyst surgery.
Sorry, MM. If one of the GOP hopefulls accepted $1 mil from a hate-spewing righty AND had his campaign advisor on his show, the libs would be up in arms. As a woman and a reasonable human being, I don't think it's ever acceptable for a national personality or political commentator to refer to females as dumb tw*ts, c*nts, bimbos, or sluts. If you don't have a problem with it, that's your prerogative.
ALL of the GOP hopefuls go on Fox, or R talk radio.
Mitt was on Howie Carr, who used to refer to kids with single moms as b*st*rds.
Oliver North called Obama anti-American on Hannity's show.
Santorum funder made the comment about women putting an aspirin between their legs.
We have to put up with this crap all the time.
Most of those don't equate with calling women those terrible names. The Carr comment was really bad; however, it wasn't aimed at one specific person. Tell me - do you condone calling women all the names I've mentioned?
You are wasting your breath Habee, LMC has never been wrong about anything, if you don't believe me, just ask her.
I state my opinions...you got a problem with that? you're problem not mine.
Do you end every statement of yours with IMO? I try to as much as possible, but it gets redundant!
OBVIOUSLY, it's all opinion.
That's really funny. I'm pretty sure you haven't used 'IMO' in quite some time. It helps and everyone should use it so we can differentiate between fact and opinion.
In your case, though I really like reading your comments, you could dial it down a bit and leave out the sarcasm. It's often difficult to read between the lines and get to that smart brain of yours.
I'll dial it down when people stop defending a man who called a woman sl*t for using birth control.
No--Carr was speaking about poor single moms. But of course, when Bristol ended up pregnant as a teen-age single mom..no one called Sarah's grandson a b#st#rd.
And no, I don't condone those words, but if a person is going to insult another, than they deserve what they get!
And Palin started going after Obama the day after McCain picked her. Dems, Libs, all get her tongue-lashing.
Sorry--she's fair game.
Fluke: off limits.
Jersey Girls: off limits
Ann Romney, Laura Bush, Michelle Obama, all their kids and grandkids: off limits.
Unless they start in on people themselves, then they too become fair game.
That's how I feel about it.
Speaking of Michelle, I can't wait to see what she does about pink slime in school lunch rooms.
Calling anyone a name is wrong! But to sit here and some defend it by saying the other side did the same? Is at best immature. Whether one has a daughter or not, saying he said, she said to make the other bad is just making excuses to condone the action. Kill the thread with everyone agreeing name calling at any level is wrong!
Have you heard any of the things Palins says about democrats? About Obama? About liberals?
She does not deserve any respect. She can take it like she gives it.
What names did Fluke call Russsshhhh to deserve his bashing?
What names has Palin used in her name-calling that equals "c*nt" and "dumb tw*t" and "slut"? I'm not a Palin fan, so I really don't know.
Un-American, pals around with terrorists, apologizes to savages....
total disrespect for the man and his wife. Said Michelle should get off her back about kids eating healthy food: she would never speak like that about Ann Romney.
Oh, and what Maher says about women doesn't really faze me....he's not trying to make public policy out of calling woman sl*ts...Russsshhhhhh is.
And you think those comments are as gender demeaning as the examples I gave????
Not gender demeaning...just people demeaning. She's a nasty human being, and if she dishes it out, she should take it...
Fluke did not dish out anything nasty to anyone, and she was met with it.
Can you not see the difference?
Palin's attacks were not personally demeaning. Maher's and Schultz's were. Again, I think Rush's comments are inexcusable, but so are the ones from the libs.
I find her attacks very personally demeaning to Obama. And dangerous.
And she demeans other countries as well. Who is she to call people savages?
women = sl*ts
muslims = savages
Howard Stern fined off the air...
Imus gone from job.....
Rush has been spewing nasty hate at libs, women and black people since 1991...and all of a sudden, he's a poor victim.
Cry me a river. What goes around, comes around.
He was protected by his rich benefactors and the GOP gvt. No protection any more....NOW he gets the same treatment as everyone else! finally
"Let's not forget that every critic of Sandra Fluke NEVER read her testimony. They NEVER address what she actually said!"
Sandra: "My friend needed contraceptives to prevent cysts from growing on her ovaries. She couldn't afford them anymore, and when she stopped taking them, a cyst did grow on her ovary, and she had to have an operation. I want contraceptives covered on the insurance plan so other women don't have to suffer this."
Rush: "This sl*t has sex a hundred times a day, and we have to pay for it."
I hope she sues his fat butt to high heaven.
Habee!!!!!!!!!! It's in the delivery. It isn't so much the words, but the emotions and motivations that were revealed within them.
Rush started talking about whatshername having sex in Junior high, and in my mind I KNOW the man was having an illicit fantasy about it, and it came through in his voice too.
He's been pathetic forever, and now it's time for Rush to loose that show, and become....a blogger, all that he ever should have been anyway.
BTW...WE pay for that! WE women in America PAY that fat butt to call us sl*ts!
http://RushLimbaugh.com removes sexist attacks on Sandra Fluke from transcript archives http://thkpr.gs/xHDh7y
Zzzzzzip. Gone from history! What attacks?
I agree that Palin can be nasty, and she certainly deserves many of her attacks. I still don't think ANY woman should be called the c-, s-, or t-word. I don't think she's the brightest bulb on the Christmas tree, either, but I would never describe any woman as a "dumb tw*t." Say she's not smart, that she's not knowledgeable, that she's not well educated - but don't call her a "dumb tw*t." It wouldn't bother as much if she was simply called "dumb." Why add the extremely female-demeaning word to the insult?
Oh, and I agree with you about leaving the wives, kids, and grandkids out of the attacks.
Misogyny.
Women are still second class here if you look at it.
And it's worse when it's female on female!
Coulter--she's the one for that.
I don't care much for Coulter, either. And yes, I think many men still consider women slightly beneath them. I made that very comment on a thread yesterday.
An activist? As a young college student helping people, now she's labeled an activist. SO if one of your kids, decide to speak out on dog's rights for instance, they are now an activist? And because, say one of your kids gets character attacks by a crazed individual it's okay? I understand you're against the demeaning name calling, but in another breath you're basicaly saying it's unfortunate but she's fair game as an Activist? Correct me if I'm wrong? Using the adjective "that" college student is not defending womens rights?
Nope - I don't think ANYONE is fair game for those types of attacks. How many times do I have to say that? And yes, she is an activist and has been for several years, but that's no reason to attack her personally. She identifies herself as an activist on her expanded Linkedin profile. She was also identified as an activist by NBC, the Boston Herald, Yahoo News, Bing, Wikipedia, Newsday, the Chicago Tribune, and many others. Still, that's no excuse for Rush's words. I hope he's fired and goes away...far, far away. Same for Ed Schultz and Bill Maher, along with anyone else who can't debate civilly or get their point across without ad hominem attacks.
I stand corrected but activist is such a cold word. She was more like a heroin for the rights of victims of domestic violence, fair access to family court, and fighting human trafficing. A daughter anyone would be proud to be a parent of in my opinion. Not the slut portrayed by Rush. Just a shame three of the four candidates running for GOP president haven't publicly taken a stand condemning those vile words against her. And now in Georgia and across this country the GOP are continuing to take away more women's rights. What's happening in the GOP party?
I don't know - I think it's being taken over by the TP and the rest of the far right. I see Mitt as way better than the other 3, but I certainly wish he'd been more vocal and forceful in his rebuke of Rush. It's not like he had anything to lose - Rush hates Mitt!
Hubby and I had dinner tonight with our best friends - both liberal Dems. The wife said she heard on MSNBC that the commenters believed Santorum would end up getting the GOP nod. If that happens, I won't vote R! He'd put women back in the middle ages. I think I'll change my voter registration to Indy. I also wish Hillary could be POTUS. Girl power!
I'm also as you say, you may become, an Indy! lol I just wish we could get someone, anyone, either party to actually care about the average working folks. One who can separate him or her self from big business and lobbyists. Someone to forge ahead for the better of all and not try to use past ideas with the same terrrible results. But of course, I'm just dreaming!)
"The Reps were stoic for a long while"
Who was prez first, Bush or Clinton??
Cause if you call investigations for the full term of his office stoic....accusations of murder stoic....Russsshhhhhh and his "pot-smoking, draft-dodging, philanderer-in-chief" smear stoic. Monica Lewinsky set-up stoic....
OMG! If we could go back in time and re-live that period...people being thrown in jail left and right..his friend locked up for not lying about him.....man.
That's when I knew these people were demons....during that episode in history. And they haven't changed. IMO
