Top Hubbers No Longer Listed?

The layout change removed the listing of top hubbers. I always enjoyed reading what the top hubbers published. Maybe a layout modification is in order.

Top, hot, and latest hubs are still available.

I'm not happy with the new layout either. It's not as user friendly as the old one. The notifications area at the top is confusing because when you have new notifications the number in green looks out of place. It also takes more clicks to get where I want to go. Kind of disappointing.

If it's true the "top Hubbers thing" is gone, rather than just temporarily lost in the new set-up, it's probably a good thing.  A number of things that aren't/weren't that great can come from having a page like that.

I think the new format looks nicer, but I'd agree that it's a little bit of a pain in the neck to do the extra clicking.  I've been in the habit of just scanning the goings-on in a matter of seconds.  (Maybe the idea is to discourage people from scanning the goings-on quite so easily and, instead, encourage them to get straight to their own Hubs.  smile  )

I second what you said in your first paragraph.  God, I hope that page is gone.

I like the new layout it looks more like my own website and not just a part of a bigger one. It has a cleaner look to it too. I don't mind the menus either, the contest link on that green thing looks great!

As for the Top hubbers page, I don't mind it being gone and not returning. Too many squabbles have ensued from people scrolling through and seeing who has high scores from who has low scores. That page was unnecessary and cause a lot of problems. I am glad that the hubs and topics pages are still intact.

My only request or suggestion would be that hubbers be able to access the HP home page (I am not talking about the feed) while signed in but I was told by a hubber, rudely so, that my suggestion was redundant so I'll just leave it alone.

Interesting new layout. Kind of weird not seeing the "top" hubbers anymore.
I'm not sure I like that.
Does seem to be pretty user friendly though!

I've always thought that "top Hubbers" thing (at least the first page or two) pretty much made a lot of people on it sitting ducks when it came to anyone wanting to find ideas or one sort or another (and more) to copy, steal, etc.  Maybe it wasn't the biggest source of "iffy" stuff, and maybe not having it won't do miracles in that department; but I'd think that at least it might help some.  At least now, anyone who's looking for "ideas" (or whatever else anyone/anything could find by just going to a page or two) will have to work just a little harder.  There's something to be said for the proverbial "low profile".   smile

Another reason for the change, at least for the list of hubbers that had been there so long, is many of them were hit hard by Google Panda, and they in fact may no longer be top hubbers, as some have already mentioned in the forums.

Maybe Hubpages is waiting till things settle down before making a new list, or it may be nothing more than a decision to drop it altogether.

I'm fairly sure that the list was sorted by score.... and it's not that difficult to get a high score. Money on the other hand, isn't directly related to score.

I agree with Lisa, it is when my score is on 100 that my best hubs get copied and yes, I'd rather not have them copied... sitting ducks indeed!

Personally, I liked that page and miss it. I used to send people to it all the time. They'd ask, "Hey, you like Hubpages, what should I do on there?" I could just send them to that page and say, "Go read, the last ten hubs by the top ten people on there and you'll see what you need to shoot for."

Plus, frankly, it's nice to know who is doing something right. Gives you something to emulate.

I know some people b!tched about that page, but they were people who couldn't get on it (and maybe the three socialist who could, but don't actually get that they aren't really socialists every time they cash their adsense checks). Go figure. I think the same social-weakness that has made it nearly impossible to flunk failing students or to even describe any kind of physical or mental ailment by its actual name rather than some long-winded euphemism that says the same thing is behind the removal of it.

Let's face it. People don't want to know they are average or even worse. If they can't be on the top list, they want the list pulled down. Working to improve is wayyyy too hard. Let's just pretend nobody is doing better than the rest. That way we're all equal.

I miss the hubber page, not as much the top hubbers, but the latest. I like to check out the new arrivals to see if there is anything interesting. Also when I was new quite a few people greeted me and welcomed me in, I wonder if anyone can find the new hubbers now. I settle for viewing new hubs now, which is OK, I sometimes find hubbers that have been around a while that I hadn't noticed before, as well as new hubbers, when they post a new hub.

The same happened to me.  I was lucky enough to find some very polite and helpful people when I first signed up.  I'm sure the new hubbers feature was a part of that.  I suppose we'll all know how it goes with time.

The answer to those looking for the top hubbers list can be found in my latest hub.
