We are beginning to see the almost apocalyptical results of economic slavery. The EU has destroyed Greece. 1 in 2 young people are unemployed, and now school children are incapable of physical activity due to under nourishment.

"Greece on the breadline: the children of Athens too hungry to do PE"
"
It has been a common secret among PE teachers for some time now that they don't expect pupils to do PE any more, because many of them are underfed and get dizzy.
They need to be discreet, as these underprivileged children don't wish to be exposed to their peers. In my previous school, the teachers arranged among themselves to give the school canteen some money, so that the canteen could give the child a snack, without embarrassing the child. "
The answer is not "MORE BAILOUTS". 3 of them have made the problem 3000 times worse, so what good will another one do?
It's time for the immediate dissolution of the EU before Europe collapses under its own weight and millions die, all the while the Eurocrats sip their Pina Coladas and tell everyone everything is going to be fine, and the project is still on.
Anybody seriously supporting this sick institution is either mentally ill or morally wretched. No more mincing of words, it's time for this to end before it's too late.
Oh if only the situation was as simple as you seem to suggest it is.
The problem with Europe is that it allowed too much corruption.
Corruption is widespread everywhere - we have fat cat bankers lining their pockets, we have greedy politicians in it for the money, even the World Bank and the IMF are nothing more than dirty rip-off Bs.
Greece when they joined took billions to upgrade their infrastrucure, but at the same time allowed widespread fraud.
That money was supposed to be paid back, but they couldn't, because they didn't collect their own internal tax. Evasion was and is widespread. Tax collectors turned a blind eye if offered a backhander.
Greece is a nation of very rich (think Greek shipping magnates)and very poor, so I'm not surprised they have starving children.
They need to get their own house in order, and put their own country first before they think about what they, as individuals, can get out of Europe.
Greece isn't the only country in Europe with corruption. Think Spain, Italy, Portugal. Britain too, but at least the UK had enough money behind them to stay afloat, so far.
Long gone are the days when you could pay the taxman a backhander to get off with actually paying income tax.
The institution breeds corruption because of its infrastructure, crucially, it does not answer to the public. No matter how much the MEPs 'debate', things press on and in secret. They create the economic environment for corruption, in tandem with poor governing that all member states are affected by. The answer will always be: "we need to have more control". No! Greece needs to be left alone to default and basically start again. We want free trade with all countries with no delusions of central control by egomaniacs who never did a hard day's work in their life.
Great post. The news on Argentina (link below) is saluatory. I whole heartedly agree. Great post. The IMF give only the kiss of death. Who and what is behind the IMF is the real story. Anybody like to guess? Greece should go back to the drachma and as you say start again. There are too many cultural differences across Europe for it to succeed with a single common currency.

"Public spending soared and public sector wages practically doubled during that time.
However, as the money flowed out of the government's coffers, tax income was hit because of widespread tax evasion."
I suggest they collect the billions in taxes that are stashed in Swiss banks.
Pretty sure that tax evasion doesn't lead to dead children...
... unless the children are completely dependent on government, and not their parents.

Is it possible to help poor people and keep our liberty?I'm sorry; I guess I'm confused again. I never thought these two things were mutually exclusive. Why aren't there more Marxist Libertarians or Conservative Liberals out there? I guess I want to eat my cake when I have it.

Stealing is immoral, right? But what if stealing was the only way to feed a starving child?

The suicide rate is shooting up in Greece as more and more ordinary people are being put under intolerable pressure by the austerity cuts. It's important to realise that the term 'Greek Bailout' means that the government and the banks are the ones being bailed out and the Greek people will...
