I have to flip through a half-dozen of them before I can find one I can read. And this concludes today's rant. big_smile

Facebook isn't the only one. Is this supposed to be a vision test?

I just did one on eBay because I couldn't remember/find my password. That one I could actually read the first time.

The funny thing is, captchas aren't even necessary anymore. I've completely eliminated them from my employer's website using a free open-source jQuery plugin that still blocks virtually all 'bots. No "human tests" required.

        Here's what I used: http://archive.plugins.jquery.com/proje … less-forms

It basically works by converting divs into form elements using Javascript after the page is loaded. People see a form that looks and behaves identically to any other, except for the lack of annoying captcha. 'bots see nothing. There are other captcha-less solutions as well.

Hmm, I've toyed around with the idea of writing a hub about my captcha removal experience. Maybe I'll go ahead and do it.

Captchas everywhere are awful. I often have to make twenty or more attempts before I get one right. They usually reduce me to tears. The spoken alternative is even worse. I have never managed to understand what is being said when I've tried to use it in place of having to work out what the distorted letters might be.

Yea seriously is it me or are captchas in general getting worse. Lately I've been cycling between a half dozen of them to get one that's SLIGHTLY readable...
