Yes, I know it's Huffpo, and they're not a very viable news-source, but I found this article rather interesting in light of Trayvon's murder; there's this huge racial outcry over white on black crime, but when this clearly racially motivated black on white crime is reported, there is no such public outcry?
I'm curious- Why do you think Americans are responding more to the Trayvon case and not to this one?
He admitted to killing them because they had nothing for him to rob. What kind of outcry would you expect? You mean from the Brits?
There was racial motivation in the article. The article presents it as the killer targeting them because they were white, hence his use of the slurs "cracker" during the crime.
Ok, right. I understand. You're question is valid but, hey, whites? No justice when it comes to racial hatred.
Very easy: "Shawn Tyson, Florida Teenager, Gets Life Sentence For Killing British Tourists James Cooper and James Kouzaris"
What has happened to Zimmerman? Nothing!
They are smearing the murder vicitm, and defending the killer!!!
True, but there was also no public outcry before the sentencing. Nobody cared that it had happened.
And I find it interesting that people are so easily jumping to conclusions with the Zimmerman case. Whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty? Yes, the facts are coming together now and we can begin to see what really happened, but people are so quick to jump on the media bandwagon and start slamming both victim and possible perpetrator in the case when they really have no clue what happened besides what the media is feeding them, which may or may not be spun.
A man chases a kid with a gun....kid ends up dead.
Anything else is spin, imo.
You've heard the expression "nothing is ever black and white"? In America, when it comes to racism, it's always black and white. It's black, and everyone else. Very sad state of society partially perpetuated by media and black advocates themselves. People like Sharpton and the other guy, can't think of his name, the professor who hates white, Jews and everyone else.
Really? The black kid was arrested right away, wasn't he? How come Zimmerman wasn't?
This question needs to be answered.
I didn't say what happened was right, gf, just that it's always black and white.
Obviously....fair treatment to the point of ignoring criminal behavior if you're white. Automatic arrest and lock up if you're black.
It may have to do with the amount of witnesses- if there had been more concrete witnesses at Trayvon's death, perhaps zimmerman would be arrested. The Huffpo article makes it sound like there were several eyewitnesses to the tourists' death.
EDIT: Just kidding- I read the article wrong. Shawn was arrested because he told his friends about it. Disregard the earlier blurb.
the reason is image. In Trayvon, it was orignally posted as a cute kid of 12. Any child killed will enrage many. if it had been a cute latino kid, killed by a black guy, the same would occur. The situation is so different is another reason.
I think the big difference is that there was an arrest in the Shawn Tyson case, and an appearance that the police investigated the case, whereas there are questions about why Zimmerman hasn't been arrested after he pursued his victim against the orders of a 911 police dispatcher. (It's hard to understand why "stand your ground" is being used as a defense for the pursuer but not the person being pursued. More to the point...this is a complex legal case that needs to be investigated and hashed out in a court of law, not simply brushed off by the police as "well, the shooter said he was defending himself...case closed!" The police are not judge and jury.)
And the second big difference in the Shawn Tyson case is that the victims weren't American. American news media is very, very selective about reporting on anything involving non-American victims. I get my news through the BBC, so I have been waiting for the verdict on the Tyson case. There has been plenty of outrage across the pond over Shawn Tyson, although the rhetoric was a little different: it was more, "America is so violent... a couple of tourists don't dare wander lost at night or some thug with a gun will shoot them!"

I know this is going to be controversial, but I'm deeply concerned about racism in this country. There seems to be many more shootings of unarmed black men by white police in the last few months. This latest shooting in Ferguson Missouri has me wondering, are these pent-up tensions...

The article came from an opinion piece in the New York Times, I would have liked to provide a simpler link. But, it was not possible. I think that this article below written by Mr. Janelle Bouie is both spot on and timeless, and explains my attitude in regard to this issue and countless others. The...

Straight up --- Is the media stoking racial division? Simply consider, when George Floyd was killed by a white police officer while he was being arrested the media went wild. Giving 24/7 coverage of Floyd's death. Stoking the fact it was a white on black crime. They aired the police video or...
