I joined up around 10 months ago and made a couple of hubs, but i've only recently started making more. I have just under 600 views in total, and 150 of those are today, yet my total earning are just $0.38 and this months... $0.00. Any ideas why?
I have 8 hubs, and the one with the most has 200 views.
Thankyou!
A typical earning seems to be around $4 per thousand views from HPads. Most of us experience a lesser amount from Adsense.
At that rate you might expect to see around $2 from your total views, but that is extremely variable from hub to hub and hubber to hubber.
In addition, those numbers are based on organic views - those from search engines. You indicate most of your hubs are new which probably means that most of your views are coming from HubPages.
Something else that must be considered is that you only have 8 hubs. As hubs will produce wild variations in earnings it is quite possible that all 8 are going to be low earners. Not to panic - the next 8 could be great performers. I personally find that about 20% of my hubs produce about 90% of the income - you need lots more hubs.
When you have 50 or 100 hubs that are all 6-12 months old and have accumulated 10,000 views but still only have a total of $5 in income you might have a problem. At this point your biggest problem is likely impatience - sit back, write more good high quality hubs and watch what happens.
I wrote of my first 6 months on HP, with traffic and earnings figures. You might take a look as a very rough guideline as to what is possible and can happen.
Thanks a lot for replying. I saw on your hub about your first 6 months you had 800 page views and had earned $0.02. I've had less page views(600) and earned more money($0.38) so does that mean i'm doing well for a beginner?
For having only a handful of hubs, I think you're doing fine. At this point it is the views that count and not the $$$ and although I don't know how old the average hub is or where the views are all coming from it doesn't sound bad.
As far as an actual comparison - just too many variables. You can look at those earnings differences and say "I made 17 times as much with fewer views" and you can look at them and say "only 36 cents difference - that's equal!". (I'm a glass half full man - I'd say the first!).
There is also the HPad program - that has made it much, much easier to earn small amounts. I had only Adsense and had to depend on the rare click instead of earning from page impressions from every reader.
Keep writing, jamiew, and it will happen. Study up on SEO and keywords, learn all you possibly can about writing online and write. Write, write and write some more. It will come, but only if you don't give up.
Are you writing articles on topics people look for?
Do you give them answers, insider info, fascinating things to read?
Are you engaging your readers (getting them interested, excited, hooked)?
Do you get them in a clicking mood with polls, interactive features, links to fantastic things related to your topic?
If you ran across your article randomly lying somewhere on the web, and you didn't know who wrote it, would you read it? All of it? Would you share it with people?
Are you building up a body of articles on different related topics, spreading out a "traffic fishing net"?
Are you actively participating in a forum or social media network or some other place where you interact, establish a reputation, contribute in a positive way, and thus earn respect and attention and visits?
If the answer to any of those is "no," those are some approaches to consider.
The web is infinite. People's time is not. You've got to earn their attention, give them a reason to visit your page out of all the pages on the web.
Ask yourself: what can I give my readers about this subject that they'll like, that will be valuable, fascinating, helpful or useful? Provide it. And then keep providing more. That way, you earn visits: visits which lead to income.
You have what amounts to as "no traffic" in the greater scheme of web traffic. 600 views divided by 10 months then divided by 7 Hubs comes down to less than one page view per Hub per day.
If you are looking to earn, you're going to have to work on creating Hubs that can draw several hundreds views per day each.
In one hub that I posted about 12 hours ago i already have over 100 views, how can I sustain that?
You can't. It will fall as it drops off the hub hopper, HP quits promoting it and hubbers don't find it any more. It was stagnate for a while and then, if you have done your keyword research, it will begin to rise with organic views from Google and other search engines. Two or three years from now it will reach its maximum usefulness if it is an evergreen article and not something that will drop off the radar entirely as it is no longer of any interest such as current events hubs.
That is the most likely scenario, the one that most hubs go through. Not all, of course, but most.
You are the only one who can figure out the why and how of that one.
You have to keep at it and write engaging Hubs. In time it will begin to snowball and .38 will become .76 and before you know it, it will be $1.00/day and then you will become excited and it will only continue from there!
Thanks a lot everyone. One thing I don't understand is how i've had 250 views in 1 day and yet my monthly earnings are at $0.00. If you earn $2-$4 per 1000 views surely a quarter of those views should mean at least $0.50, so how can I have absolutely nothing. I know it's very small money right now but I don't understand how that works.
It is because you don't make any earnings if the views are from fellow hubbers.
Your stats will tell you how much you are earning per 1000 in the "CPM" line
last month my CPM was $3.27 and i had 15 impressions, which earned me $0.05 in March. This month, where i have around 300 views, my CPM is $0.00 and impressions are 0. I'm really confused about this, is it just that it hasn't updated my current monthly earnings yet, because surely my impressions should be around 300( aren't impressions just views).
Hmm I'm guessing you got those views from Face Book? Check your traffic sources.
nope mostly hubpages, about a quarter google and some reddit. none facebook
I think the earnings come only from organic traffic. Facebook and Hubpages visits earn you nothing. This has been my personal experience.
We've had a spate of people lately reporting seeing surges of traffic from Facebook in their Hub stats (you can search for those threads in the forums), but all that traffic has been missing in Analytics because the hits are due to some sort of web-bot hitting the page and it's not genuine visits.
There's a strong likeliness that this is what you are seeing.
There was a bot of some sort and I got an increase in traffic from them as well. But, it was just around 30 views each on two days. However, others reported in the thousands.
My month's earnings have just gone up to $0.24.So I'm guessing there's just a delay from the views to the money being shown, have any of you seen that?
HPads updates early in the morning. At least they do most mornings - sometimes it can take several days for the advertisers to update HP's numbers and they can pass the info along to us.
And no, impressions are not page views. First, only 60% of views will be attributed to you - the rest go to HP. Your stats don't take this into account, but the numbers in HPads certainly does.
In addition, the ads on any given page may or may not be from HPads (usually are, though) - they could possibly all be from Adsense. The point is that you will never be able to see an exact conversion from views to impressions.
Try to add hubs. If you earn from HP ads, then earnings could also be affected by how much advertisers are willing to pay for the types of ads in your hubs (including what wilderness stated).
Good luck!!
This is probably a really stupid question, but I'm in England and my money is displayed in dollars. When it is put into my paypal account will it be converted into £?
I believe that if your account is in pound then they will convert USD to pound.
Just keep on publishing search engine optimized content and you'll see the $$$ rolling in. To start making good amount, you need at least 1000 page views per day, and bulk of it should come from search engines.
That is all really good information. Thanks everyone. I was wondering how people make money on hubs. I never made money and the rules changed so I had to unpublish most of my hubs. I just thought I'd check in again and see what was happening. Have fun hubbing.
Not sure if it's already been said, but I'm pretty sure earnings are based on outside traffic and not internal HubPages traffic. Every time you view your article, whether it's during or after edits, it counts as an internal view. So keep that in mind. That one really tripped me over a few times in the beginning.
Also, try to make your hubs with a minimum of 400 to 500 words... Google likes pages that has lots of information and knowledge. Try to include as much extra information that you feel might be useful or interesting to the reader. Also, choose unique topics to the best of your ability
An example off the top of my head: I recently published an article titled "What is Posi Pop-Punk?" It could have easily gotten to the point in under 150 words, but I expanded on the knowledge and included things such as examples of bands, a video, and even "posi" in other music scenes.
Also, like GreekGeek mentioned, it's useful and beneficial to create related articles on related topics to help spread out a "traffic fishing net." Another example would be my other article "The Pop-Punk Music Scene" which is directly related to my former article... I could have very well included the former info in the latter, but instead I created a whole new article for it (specifically since I didn't want to give my readers info-overload) and linked them together. I see that you had done similar with your Fifa articles, so that is good
Hopefully I gave you a tip or two that might be useful

I hear people talking all the time about hubs that produce good readership, but I know this number differs for many. In your case, how many views per month do you think is good for any given article? Just curious.

I have heard the saying :Fake it till you make it; but today I read an interesting thread sparked by howtoguru. I have searched but can't seem to pick up a link to his hubs. let me backtrack.I read a hub with a poll; and unless it is ancient,66% of those who voted said that they earn $10 or less on...

How many page views does it take to create $1 ?Now; I realist that page views and hub revenue is not 100% directly proportionate, however I wondered what people found is generally the average revenue generated from a certain amount of page views, I have a rough idea it might be around;400 pages...

Why am I not earning more?OK, here's the skinny on me. I've been at it for seven months, written 41 hubs, had 3600 hits and 250 comments. I've earned a whopping $8. Is this normal for newbys or is there something I'm missing?
