It was suggested that I join hubpages, what are the advantages if I have to create unique content for a site where my income comes from my own site and where I am focused
You could get good backlinks, you could also drive some traffic from here to your site..yes, you would earn more from your sites no doubt... but you need to do the other things as well to help your site... That is what me thinks..
After digesting what you have asked several times, and still getting indigestion, I would suggest that you go with whatever your "feel" is correct for you. You are under no pressure to join/write here on HubPages, however if you do, it will have to be unique and not published elsewhere.
That's a very good question.
For newbies, writing on a site like HubPages makes a lot of sense - because there's a helpful community to learn from and socialize with, and lots of tools to develop your online skills.
However for someone with an established website or sites, I can't see any reason why you'd write here purely for revenue. But it is very worthwhile to write here for backlinks to your main site.
I'm not sure if you're aware how effective backlinks within articles are. They're so much more valuable than links on social networks, bookmarks, directories etc that many professional webmasters actually pay to get blog owners to place articles on their blog. And often, they've paid to have the article written as well!
Recently, Google has declared war on those paid networks, so I certainly wouldn't advise joining one - if they're publicly advertising for membership, Google can find them too, and they won't last. But you can achieve the same result by networking with other bloggers and guest blogging on each others' sites, and by writing on rev-sharing sites like HP (where you have the bonus you can earn money as well!).
When you consider all you have to "give away" is an original article which you're able to write yourself, you're getting a "bargain" backlink compared to the webmasters who are paying for an article and paying to have it posted.
You're quite right mate!
Sometimes it is surely a waste of time etc. for us to attempt to change someone's focus! Especially when that party can see no benefit in stepping back from the tree, to allow them to view the whole forest!
If Hubpages was the only game in town to building backlinks there may be a case for me to build out their site, unfortunately for Hubpages, there are many sites where you can syndicate your own "copyrighted" content, building backlinks. I do not know about you'all, it takes me quite some of time to write a one "good" article and there is still only 24 hours in a day.
Everyone is different. Some like to throw out all sorts of articles and hope at least some gain traffic. Like you, I tend to spend quite a bit of time on a single article before publishing it. And really, we never know how long a site will be in business, or if backlinks will be worth anything at all. But hey, nothing is assured on the net. You roll the dice.....!
You are under no duress to join this site...the decision of course is yours... and there is no dearth of people joining this site everyday.. yep , this isn't the only way to get backlinks and we don't need to convince you either..
Ultimately, growing your own site and biz objectives needs to take priority.. in that respect, you can maintain your own web presence, your way.. as opposed to exposing your work to the vested and controlled interests of other site moderators...
Like anything it takes time to gain best benefits... and clearly best benefits come from solid Google relationships.. which (to their credit) in some respects, HP could be seen as and treated as, a competitor.
Good luck in the forest... don't rely on bread crumbs.. there are too many bottom feeders!
I guess whether it is a waste of time depends one what your own site makes, and whether you want to diversify.
After publishing my own site for years, I decided to take a spin-off idea here to Hubpages instead of creating a secondary site. Why? Because I'd rather do a bit of profit sharing with HP than to go through the hassle of building the site, the simplicity of SEO at HP, and the increased revenue in the "beginning" stages.
There are some things I like better about personal site publishing, such as different layout options, but it's not enough to talk me out of publishing here.
With quality content and keyword specific domain names, HP is a much better option than being my own webmaster (and the headaches that come with it) any day.
The main reason to write on a site like Hubpages, besides backlinks, is that you can write on diverse subjects, whereas a blog or website is often stronger if it's mostly focused on a single niche with cross-linked, relevant content.
Sites like Hubpages can afford to have articles on "everything plus the kitchen sink" because they have a robust topics tree and hierarchy. There are lots of articles in each topic and subtopic, relevant and related to one another. So big article sites can maintain strong search relevance on many different topics and niches more easily.
So this is a place to put ideas that may not fit your website's focus, but are still good content. They'll earn a little revenue and, if you're an excellent writer, help you gain exposure and readers from a new venue.
However, article sites are not for everybody. Diversifying income streams and establishing multiple baskets is wise strategy. It's also wise to exploit free ways to establish, backlink and promote your content and online reputation. But you have to decide whether any particular site, venue or opportunity is worth the effort and the content you put into it.

One of my articles on an HP niche site recently underwent the Premium Pro editing process. The editor decided to add about 800 words of her own research to supposedly "improve" my article. Personally, I hated the addition. I do not feel comfortable including other...

this is just my personal opinion on what everyone should do for each of their hubs directly after writing them or at any point in time. Submit them to 3-4 of your favorite social bookmarking websites (takes 2-5 minutes) and than write an ezine-article for ezinearticles.com with the link to 2 of...

Hi everyone,Since Google's updates these past couple of months, I've noticed a significant traffic drop (about 20%). Every time I gain some traction and hope, it's a case of going back two steps again. I'm sure I'm not alone! I thought it might be a good idea to start a healthy discussion here to...

Just curious, but does anyone have experience with this? How'd you do it? Did you tell Google the article moved somehow or do anything else fancy? Or did you just copy, paste, delete from HubPages, and wait for Google to catch up?Im guessing there might be some duplicate content penalties from...

I often see forum posts about how the site is 'dying', or asking why people would continue writing here after they've earned success on their own websites. So I thought I'd start a thread about WHY people still write here. To start, here are some of my reasons (I haven't written much in the past...
