   Dick Clark dies at 82
   
   Dick Clark, the television host and entrepreneur who sold rock-and-roll to Middle America on the dance show "American Bandstand" and counted down the new year with millions of TV viewers as emcee of an annual celebration in New York's Times Square, has died after a heart attack.       Such sad news. Dick Clark was responsible for bringing attention to so many talented Motown artists who may never had been heard if he did not feature them on American Bandstand. Ryan Seacrest can never fill his shoes, he just doesn't have the gravitas. What a shame.

         There's a whole generation -- probably more than one, that doesn't understand the term "gravitas."
         Witness the "entertainment" of the past few years on Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve.

      Awww...what a loss for us.  82 is quite a long life, and his was extraordinary; but still sad to see him go

         I thought, based on his appearance in recent years after his stroke, that he was actually older than 82.
         He went from looking 25 to 85 just like ... that.

   Not sure about that, Ron. I'm definitely a contender, and I'm sure there are more, but I say even with us, there will never be anything like "Bandstand," no matter who comes along.

      I can't think of anyone good either. Ryan Seacrest just isn't working for me. I understand he may be popular with young people, or those who like American Idol. But on New Year's Eve it's kind of about family. It's important and a big deal when kids can stay up until midnight and see the ball drop. We need someone who appeals to all generations.
