Should more of these legal dope houses open up to accommodate the health and safety concerns of iv drug users?  Do they create more problems than they solve and make being an addict too easy?

Since the link was snipped, you can search for Insite in Hubpages search to see the article concerning North America's only such place.

Absolutely they should. Not only do they address the health and safety of iv users, but society as a whole. (imagine the horror if your child's skin was pierced by a needle which had been used by an individual with hiv/aids, which they had found in a local park) Surely it is better for iv users to use in an environment that will not harm others?

Also, such establishments often employ substance misuse workers who can assist an iv user to access services and work towards a life free of dependency.

They don't make  being an addict any easier, maybe safer for them and us. Hardcore heroin addicts are way more likely to commit a crime to get their fix than the pot smoker who ran out of weed until his next check. If anything, it helps us monitor and provide some controls for the problem.

I remember reading that Switzerland has injection rooms, as well as vending machines that dispense syringes.

On the other hand, the Swiss also voted to keep Cannabis illegal, just as they voted to outlaw nude Alpine hiking.

Sometimes the Swiss choose to do the right thing. At other times, they vote to preserve their image, for the sake of the tourist trade, which is a significant part of the Swiss economy.

The Vancouver facility doesn't even vend needles, they are given to a person along with all other supplies needed to shoot up.  The medical "nurse" will do everything but actually inject it.
