   Does anyone watch cartoons even though you are way too old for the assumed target audience?

   I love cartoons. I don't enjoy the Simpsons or Family guy, but I get a kick out of ones like the Animaniacs and Sponge Bob. And we rent any animated movie that comes out. I like any form of entertainment that is light hearted.

   You're never too old to watch cartoons. Quality is quality no matter the medium. So the only criteria should if the show is good or not.

   I agree.  You're never too old for cartoons.  When I was a kid, my father would watch cartoons with us.  I would also like to ad the cartoons today are nothing like what they used to be.

         What about "Phineas and Ferb"  it is Disney and definitely kid oriented.  It is fun to watch for some reason.

   Yes! I have my own set of DVD's as well.
   
   But cartoons were not originally intended for children. Think of the Flintstones...they were essentially a cartoon version of The Honeymooners.  Adult swim (on Cartoon network) is also not for kids lol. Animation (2D or 3D) is just a another medium with which one can tell a story.
   
   .....small confession though, I still watch the kiddie stuff too. haha.

   The old Bugs Bunny cartoons were often on two levels - one for kids and one for adults. Many were even accompanied by classical music. Remember the one where Bugs was shaving Elmer Fudd's head and "The Barber of Seville" was playing in the background? Or how 'bout the one where Elmer was singing "Kill the Wabbit" to Wagner's "Ride of the Valkyries."

      I heard somewhere that Bugs Bunny cartoons started as filler for the time between movie reels.  I wonder if I am remembering correctly.  I guess I need to look it up now.  I always liked the Woody Woodpecker cartoons.

    No way, a lot of cartoons make references to current world issues or events that kids wouldn't even understand. Take the cartoon Family Guy for example, always referencing real life events and a lot of kids wouldn't understand the jokes.

       I don't really count Family Guy as a cartoon as much as an animated series... mostly because of the content. I think cartoons are supposed to be more whimsical and joyful while Family Guy is more like adult humor without with softer side that other cartoons have.

    Cartoons could never be just for kids... I love Phineas and Ferb, and The Fairly OddParents were great.  Honkey Smoke, I wish they'd bring back Rocky and Bullwinkle!

    Cartoons are just a form of art. There are also adult cartoons (hentai, for example) and cartoons with too complicated context for kids to understand. The best cartoons though are appealing to most people. It really takes skill to write and draw to attract wide audience.

    Horror, Thriller and Gory animes (not for kids)
    
    ....there are many animes which are made for adults. It's just that some conservative folks wants to categorize cartoons for kids to get some superiority feeling for what they watch on TV.

       I am not convinced that all conservative folk want to do that.  I have had liberal friends just as upset over adult swim as conservative friends.  Those labels are too broad to use on cartoon fans anymore.  Just my opinion.

    I love cartoons like superman, tom and jerry, green lantern, thorn. I also like watching cartoon series and i have watched some like death note, Naruto and i am presently watching fairytail and bleach

       I found Death Note fascinating, if I am thinking of the correct series.  Naruto and Fairytail I am not familiar with.  I do not understand Bleach; but, I still have fun watching that cartoon, when I can.

    Cartoons are awesome! They are a great way to stay young at heart and spend a little time giggling with your kids. However, some of the newer cartoons appear to not be very appropriate and somewhat ridiculous.  For example: Almost naked animals and The adventures of gumball.I like watching the older ones; Pink Panther, Looney Toons, Scooby Doo. My kids like them too. I also like Courage the Cowardly dog and Fosters home for imaginary friends. I am currently watching Tom and Jerry with my step daughter.

    I'd like to think that we are all kids at heart...if we were to look back at how we originally saw the world...even how we saw cartoons! But then...I would love to drive the Mach 5 of Speed Racer fame, too. So maybe...I shouldn't interject my thoughts on to this thread...too much

       Speed Racer was one of those cartoons I would not miss as a kid.  When I found a channel with reruns showing, I regretted watching it again.  No one moved in that cartoon.  I like my memories better.  I guess you are correct.

    I love cartoons.  When my kids were small, I used to watch cartoons with them and my favourite was "Pinky and the Brain." It was hilarious!  We used to sing Pinky and the Brain all the time...

    I love the new cartoon movies.  They are spectacular! I just borrowed Wall.E from the library.  My kids said they were not interested.  Well, I am.

    Hell no! i recently got hold of a load of Tom and Jerry cartoons, i laughed as much as i did as a kid. Cartoons often have many hidden gags for all ages, and everybody loves slapstick!

    Rosie, I love Pinky and the Brain. For a time I was convinced I was Brain as a kid. And I don't think cartoons are for kids, they are universally enjoyable and is one of the few things you can watch as a family nowadays. So no, I don't think I'll ever be too old to see my buddy Bugs light up the screen.

    I'm old school, I grew up watching Looney Tunes, Tom & Jerry, Scooby Doo, and other classic toons. I have two kids (9 and 5) and they enjoy NickToons stuff like SpongeBob, Fairly OddParents, etc. -- I can take them in small doses (sometimes Fairly Oddparents is actually somewhat clever) but I prefer the golden oldies.

    I would say that the sunday line-up on Fox is certainly not for kids. The Simpsons might be, but the Cleveland show, Family Guy, and American dad are not for kids, and they are darn funny. I also like Bob's Burgers. And, one that should certainly not be watched by kids is South park, or Robot Chicken.
    
    I grew up on Looney Tunes, and Buggs Bunny. I couldn't spend a Saturday morning without watching it. I also liked Tweety bird, and sylvester the cat. Foghorn Leghorn and Peppi Le Pu always made me laugh. Along with the road runner. I also grew up on the Flintsones and Scoobie Doo.
    
    Does anyone remember when they started saying that Looney Tunes was too violent for kids, and then they came out with the Thundercats, which were some kind of half man/half cat who went around beating the crap out of bad guys. Yet, they didn't seem to think that was violent? Followed by more super hero-like shows that tried to follow it?
    
    These days, almost every kids cartoon is centered around a video game. Or, there is some toy associated with it. Spongebob is probably the most innocent. But, those people also created Ren and Stimpy, which was not innocent at all!
    The cool thing is, there are so many cartoons out there today, that I don't think it would be possible to sit down and watch all of them.
    
    My favorite is Family Guy. It's just too funny. Love American Dad too.

       I remember Peppi le Pu.  He was great.  Fog Horn Leg Horn was mixed in their too.  I never understood why they (parents? teachers?) thought Loony Toons was too violent for kids.  After all, I was part of the dodge ball generation and I knew that cartoons were not real.
