I'm rootin' for I'll Have Another on Saturday! We haven't had a Triple Crown winner since Affirmed, in 1978. It's time! lol
Sorry Habee, I'll Have Another has been scratched from the race
OMG. I just heard that on the news. I don't even want to watch the race now.
I know what you mean...there was such excitement. But it seems as though I'll Have Another could live for another day, given the right placement, even though he doesn't race.
You will want to see this clip about retired race horses and what happens to them, the good and the bad...

That his trainer removed him from the Belmont is to the trainer's credit, staying more injury. Let's hope I'll Have Another finds a new, useful, and rewarding life through a program such as Turning for Home. The 9 minutes of this video will make you cry in both sorrow and joy.
RELAX Everyone....
This was reported wrongly!!
They meant to advise punters that S.C. Ratched was riding the mount... not that it was scratched!
I get the humor, but I'll Have Another's injury is a big deal in the horse world. Many live their lives in the horse industry, and the message here is that the trainer saw the injury before putting the horse out into a race that could end its life. It's a story to be celebrated.
What a shame.

I'll Have Another seems to have had his last.
Thanks for the link. I'm sorry the horse is under the weather.
I was so, so disappointed to hear about I'll Have Another. In my heart, I feel he would have taken the crown.
When I first caught the news clip about this horse, I fell in love with his name. Many years ago I used to go to the track quite often with my family, knowing very little about horses. As time went on, my way of choosing a horse to bet on was by the name. I didn't care about odds, size, whether the horse was a mudder or not, if the name struck me, my money was on it. This practice netted me nice sums of money. Nothing huge, just enough to make me happy. Unlike my hubby, father, father-in-law, brother-in-law, I didn't study the racing forms nor sit down with pencil and paper trying to determine a winner. I think I irritated them when I would get excited for winning $17 They weren't heavy betters, but certainly bet more than the $2 I allowed myself.
As sad as this turn of events is, I am glad the horse has responsible owners who didn't let greed get in the way. Other owners could well have run the horse in spite of the oncoming condition, in their quest for the almighty dollar.
I didn't know the term "mudder"...apparently you had more race track experience than I. LOL
You and I had spoken about his name and how much we liked it. I think "I'll Have Another" will have another life, like El Frio. If this horse ever gets auctioned off for horse meat, there will be a huge outcry.
Yes, a mudder is a horse who runs well on a wet, sloppy track. Generally, they were long shots (slim chance of winning) but quite often, they did. If not first they finished in the top three.
Thanks for that, trish...I'd never heard of a mudder.

Should a horse have to run all three legs of the Triple Crown?Yesterday's Belmont Stakes caused some controversy because 3 of the top finishers had not run the Derby or Preakness. This caused quite an outburst from California Chrome's owner that a horse should be required to run all three races. I...
