Yesterday my traffic was over 1000, today it's massively dropped to 90. I have no idea why?

Chck to see if your are still getting Goolgle traffic like you were.  Chances are you've been screwgled like many of us on Hubpages.  Try reading your hubs aloud like some of us were told to do!  lol

Yup, since I get all my traffic from google it had to be there smile It's lower but its there. I can wait for sometime before I read my hubs out loud big_smile

I have experienced a massive drop over a two week period. The reasoning? No idea.

My traffic crashed by over 70%!! All my hubs fetching me around 150 a day got me just 30 sad The ones getting me around 50 just 10 and the ones getting me 10's is almost nil!

Any update by the big G?

PS: This isn't my usual weekend drop.

Same here. Traffic drop of 90%. But my other blogs are doing fine so I think only Hubpages is affected.
May be it will bounce back, like it always does. However, it would be nice to know why always HubPages is the focus of such roller coasters.

Same problem here. Yesterday, my traffic dropped significantly, and I didn't get a single impression coming from Google. Some of my hubs that were before on the first or second page on Google cannot be found at all anymore... I hope this is just a temporary issue.
Anyway, it is good to know that I am not the only one affected by this.

From my experience if google traffic dries up completely overnight, you have been placed in the sandbox. I was there for three months last year but got out after doing virtually nothing- others such as Izzy have never climbed out-
There are lots of threads on this but as of yet no definite solution to the problem- sorry

Sandboxing is usually done individually and not en-masse. I just hope you are wrong smile

lobobrandonposted 11 years agoin reply to this

Mine aren't sandboxed. Sandboxed means they're totally thrown off the face of Google wink mine have fallen in ranks not gone to page 20 or 30 just from page #1 and at times #1 to rank 30 or 40 and some even below 100

IzzyMposted 11 years agoin reply to this

That is typical of the sandbox effect!

          Sandboxed hubs are still indexed.

But, some hubs are ranking high even #1 for a single keyword which used to get me a quarter of the total traffic (on that hub). So, I doubt I've been sandboxed. Its something else

Well, it seems I've been sandboxed... It is very frustrating. IzzyM, I read your hub on sandbox effect and it seems you had a lot of trouble with it.
            Are your hubs still sandboxed?

I'm afraid so. I had to more or less abandon this account and start new ones.

IzzyM, that's very discomforting. Is there any way to fix this sandbox effect?

I was thinking to un-publish all of my hubs, and published them in a different account. But I don't know if HubPages would allow that.  Does HubPages allow having several accounts at the same time?

Yes.  But your hubs will start over as if new with no age or backlinks to them.  Multiple subdomains are allowed here.  But there is no guarantee the new account will not fall at any time like the previous one.

Thanks Randy Godwin. That's really good to know. I appreciate it.
I have just started writing for HubPages (well, wrote 40 hubs, which I think here is considered 'just starting') so I'm fine with starting over.
And I'm quite sure that I know which hubs caused the trouble. I will just leave them out in my new account.
                    Thanks again.

The sandbox means you are moved to supplemental results, your site wont be indexed  in the main search results and will only be delivered if google cannot find anything in the main index.

Sites are getting hit by algorithmic changes and manual link abuse actions right now.

You'll still get some Google traffic on individual hubs.  And your stuff will not necessarily drop from sight altogether.  Some hubs may still rank fairly high too.

I also lost around 80% of traffic but not in the last few days. I believe it was both the Panda and the penguin that choked me to death. The loss is definitely from Google.com. However, I don't think I've been sand boxed because my non-recipe hubs made a recovery and are receiving traffic from Google.com. Who knows?

  7. LeanMan profile image81
    LeanManposted 11 years ago

The hubs that I have lost traffic on in the last couple of days still have the same SERPS position but there are now a couple of paid adverts in the top two slots of googles little list, the blue is now so faint on their adverts that they look like normal results so I guess that is why I am getting less views there!!

    1. lobobrandon profile image87
lobobrandonposted 11 years agoin reply to this

True. I lost rankings as well as more ads = double disaster! Which was once ranked #2 is now #5 and thanks to 3 ads (2 more added recently) it seems like its #8 rather than #3(with 1 ad)

  8. TahoeDoc profile image78

Me too. Each google update/algo change, my traffic actually increased. Until now. I have lost 50% or more of my views, going from a high of 1500 a day to 750. My usual weekend decrease is usually only about 200 or 300 off and it recovers very quickly by Tuesday.

My decline has been steady since June 2, as best I can pinpoint. It is dramatic and continues to fall further each day.

http://tahoedoc.hubpages.com/hub/Hub-Vi … Experience is a hub I started when my views inexplicably climbed earlier this year. I have updated it to reflect the drop recently. Sigh.

This time of year is a seasonally low time, so that makes it a little tougher to tell what's changing.  We did see some unusually large movements up and down for some of the rankings data we track this weekend.

This is a little bit unusual. We saw a few high volume terms move down and back up between Friday and Sunday.  Those can have a significant impact on an accounts traffic.

Although our internal data shows some pretty big change in rankings up and down, traffic as a whole is slightly down.  This could be seasonality.

In the past, Panda updates haven't had major terms fluctuate quickly.  I guess this could be a new flavor or perhaps another algo change.  So far, I haven't seen an announcement from Google on an official update.

Every summer we see this; kids are out of school, people are outside more and online less and most vacations happen in the summer months it's why gas prices and air fares rise.

Wait until the fall and you'll all be ecstatic about how much traffic you are getting. It fluctuates, just keep writing and it'll pick back up.

I'm hardly getting any traffic from google. Maybe 20 hits per day. I was getting like 100 or more from google.

Now my traffic is almost none. I went from 100 (maybe 150, it was building) to 20 (maybe 30) views perday. This is so frustrating and it makes writing almost no fun now.

There appears to be a stronger freshness bias in the algo, although it's hard to see a pattern.  One thing that is clear, video continues to get more visibility.

    1. WriteAngled profile image74
WriteAngledposted 11 years agoin reply to this

Yes, I've noticed that video crap, together with paid advertisements, now elbows out any potentially useful search results from Google.

Fortunately, Google Scholar remains untainted, but for general searches I have now been forced to move to other providers.

I really cannot see the attraction of blurred webcam rubbish accompanied by a stumbling voiceover in some semi-comprehensible local accent and spoken at about one tenth of the rate at which I would read the same information.

Furthermore, video does not allow me to skim the information for relevance (it takes just a few second to assess that for a written document). I also cannot extract potentially useful information without taking laborious notes by hand and then typing them up, whereas with a written document I can copy-paste.

I suppose I am one of a dying breed who actually hopes to find real, useful information on the web rather than infotainment.

I am 100% with you on this.  I like videos for music and jugglers, and porn obviously.

For pretty much everything else I want to use my scan reading skills and make a decision based on that.

Nothing fills me with more desire to back arrow than "check out the whatever at 2 minutes and 30 seconds...."

New Summary from the Google Webmaster Academy (22 May 2012)
    http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot. … ademy.html

"Would you trust the information in this article?
Is the article useful and informative, with content beyond the merely obvious? Does it provide original information, reporting, research, or analysis?
Does it provide more substantial value than other pages in search results?
Would you expect to see this in a printed magazine, encyclopedia or book?
Is your site a recognized authority on the subject?"

    A very tough ask!

    1. WriteAngled profile image74
WriteAngledposted 11 years agoin reply to this

Yes, I do feel I meet those criteria in much of what I produce. I have demonstrated research skills (PhD). In my previous employment, I was considered to have presentation skills satisfactory to result in me being invited to make both specialist and non-specialist presentations to the European Commission, UK Home Office, numerous international conferences, as well as schools, clubs and discussion groups.

I was also called on frequently to ensure the scientific integrity and stylistic quality of material published by my organisation.

A lot of what I publish here and elsewhere, is based on exhaustive analysis of the scientific and other academic literature, which I then present in a form that can be understood by lay people.

Given that I have written extensively for printed publications in the past, yes, I do consider that much of what I write is suitable for a printed magazine, encyclopaedia or book.

However, I continue to get pitiful views and earnings. What I earn for my online writing in a month, I can earn in 15-30 minutes in my real job of freelance medical translator.

On the basis of my experience, I am of the opinion that the spoilt children at Google at talking out of their communal backside.

"I do find it interesting that in the new lists, Google talks about the site being a recognized authority, but not so much from the author perspective. I have no doubt that Google considers this greatly, but it’s a little odd that it wasn’t included here. Goog, of course, has been pushing authorship in search results, even using it to promote Google+ profiles. It does provide the author with greater visibility in search results by default (with visual, clickable images). "

janderson99posted 11 years agoin reply to this

+ Being cynical one could argue that behind the scenes Google is building its Semantic Search model and its database of answers. The process is essentially to steal stuff, rewrite it and present it directly in the SERPS (SIRI + HAL on steroids), with a reference list of links - It cuts out the middleman. Google wants a better quality sieve so it doesn't compile garbage.
