What do you do with the fat and the innards that you get from chicken and beef?  Do you do anyting from the carcases of Turkey and Chicken or any fowl?

Honestly, I boil them in water and a little bit of salt and feed them to the stray cats, we have 2 of them that keep coming in our backyard and I hate when animals go hungry, including our squirrels that my aunt said we should not feed, but oh well they are all God's animals and i can't let them starve.smile

I have slottered goats, sheep, chickens and other animals. I take all the innards clean them well grind them up and fry them. Then I mix them with my dog's regular food. She really loves it. Oh by the way, use an old grinder that you no longer use for human food. I wouldn't want to eat anything out of the dog's grinder.

Why wouldn't you eat what the dog eats and vice versa?  You do know that you can feed your dog all those things *raw*?

    Look for stock recipes.
I always use gizzards, liver, kidney, heart and necks of turkey to make a broth that is added to the gravy at Thanksgiving-- the liver, kidney, heart  and meat are finely chopped to add to the dressing.

I do that already.  I was trying to get information about those places that just dispose of those things.  I am trying to find a way to feen feral/stray cats in my area and maybe start some kind of coop ofr others in other areas.  I know that Costco and other grocers aren't allowed to give or sell the fat or other parts they get off meat anymore because of some law.  I am not sure what that law is, but it is stupid.  All that good fod can feed animals and hoeless people too.  I do understand about possible poisonings and disease, but I think they put the cart before the horse.

If they are boiled at the correct temp for the required length of time ,they would kill all bacteria ,then use salt  too preserve it.
Adding cooked rice or bran or rice flour to bulk it up is great .
Then just freeze in portions ( ice-cream ,margarine ,plastic containers etc).....even yogurt pottles are great for small amouts of tallow ( fat /stock).......Great Initative by the way ,all the best:D

I use chicken and turkey gizzards and hearts to make soup. It is really good if it is made spicy and taken when one has a cold. It clears the colds in a few hours, that's not to say how good gizzards and hearts will enhance the taste of you soup.

I take the hard fat and put it in a suet basket for birds, especially woodpeckers. But only during the winter months. They love it and it helps them survive during the worst time of the year.
Other scraps you don't want I usually give them a quick fry in a skillet and toss them out for my dogs or other wildlife. You don't need to add any fat, just a little oil if the scrap doesn't have any fat on it.
I will make stock out of some of it and what's left goes to the dogs.

I boil the the leftover turkey carcass to boil and use as stock for when I make seafood, sausage, chicken and shrimp gumbo. It produces excellent flavor. When I cook ham with the bone-in, I used what's left on the ham bone and make different types of beans, like Great white northerns or pintos,to name just a few.

I tend to make a stock out of the remainder of the fat and the bones when we have chicken, it can make for a delicious soup base smile As for any leftover meat, well that usually goes to my two cats smile

Are you master builders or master butchers?

Is it only grocers who can't sell it, or have you gone to an actual slaughterhouse and asked about it? Here the slaughterhouse has to pay to dispose of all the unused parts, so I've always been able to take what I want to put in dog food. I do know the owner of the slaughterhouse personally, so that may make a difference because he knows he won't have liability issues because I really AM feeding it to my dogs. I know of another person who takes scraps to feed to local wild raptors and scavengers.

On the other hand...if they can't sell/give it straight to you, would you be able to go through a humane society or other animal-related organization that can vouch for its use for animals only? I'm not sure what the laws are in other states, but it might help.
