I don't perceive a problem with accepting what is written in the Bible as true. I do see a huge problem with interpretations of what it means, who wrote it, and what will happen to people that don't agree with certain interpretations.
Any well written book can inspire; or cause some individuals to use it to the detriment of others by unwisely incorporating a bad interpretation of its meaning into their personal philosophy.
The humanist movement relies on experiencing reality. Theism relies on stories and tales. Which would you choose, had there never been a bible? Would you go by your senses or would you create a faith for yourself?
Which would I choose?
I would choose not to engage in conversation with someone who simply wishes to belittle and berate anyone who doesn't agree with his/her own idea of faith.
Peace!
Nonto, tell me how this story/tare told in the Bible happened exactly as this book of tales said it would, over 5000 years ago. It's a story about a Woman Clothed With the Sun with a garland of 12 stars round about her head.
The interpretation of this Woman was the birth of a nation, of 12 sons whose nation of people would be a Sign and a Wonder "forever" and this book of tales listed every single curse to befall this nation and "how" it would be so. And that nation of people was to come to America and immediately live out the curses of a supposedly "fairly tale" book.
Now keep in mind, this nation of people are fierce, brutal to an extend and one would think they would have too much pride to be subjected by anyone, even with their enormous advantage, physically-wise, and rough out of a jungle.
Yet, they get here and you can literally read that book of tale to know what suppose to happen to them and bet on it happening while most would think it wouldn't happen. They fought to the bones, tried in their damnest to break the will of their oppressor and fail miserably. Nor were they in fear of their oppressors in the beginning, for they looked as "inferior" in their eyes, compare to their strength and power.
But the Book of Tales pretty much destroy them to a minority nation, no greater or smaller, to this day. A mighty people, humbled, brought down lower than all humanity and still.living out their curse. To this day. A Book of Tail told of this and they knew nothing of it then, until now.
If it is on the Internet, can it always be trusted as being fact and truth?
If it comes from authority, it has to be true.
I laughed at this statement, especially when I think of all those broken treaties the US had with the American Native Indians! Their words were on paper, but those promises were never kept! Did not make that true!
I can see how people are switching their attitudes to, "Oh my, it's true, I read it on the internet." But realistically, we know heresay and blown up fish stories exist in all news media. So can we consider all written word to be true....NO!
You should seriously consider your words and your own self-reflection. I have come across countless so-called religious individuals who are the epitome of 'closed-minded'. Ignorance lives within anyone and everyone who doesn't allow themselves to open up to the endless possibilities that exist in the world. It is not 'your way or the highway', so I plead with you, to open up and truly listen. It would do you some good to read, Eckhart Tolle, 'A New Earth, Awakening to Your Life's Purpose', or anything written by OSHO. These individuals understand how religion has stunted our growth and oppressed our innate right to question, explore, discover. They will shake up your world and get you to think.......possibly for the first time.
Peace,
Carreen
