I am sick and tired of seeing others' comments to hubs I've commented on show up in my "notifications". They show up because I didn't uncheck the default "follow" when I commented on a hub. This is crazy. Make the default the other way around. If I want to follow a trail of comments, I'm capable of so indicating. You don't have to make that decision for me.

Likewise for the default "follow" on forum threads. It's a friggin annoyance.

      Hi Sally's Trove,

Last year we announced a feature which allows users to change the default setting of this checkbox:

      http://hubpages.com/forum/topic/76467

Our goal with notifications is to allow users to receive as much (and as little!) email from the site as they care to have.  We're sorry if you were receiving more communication from us than you'd like.  But hopefully changing these settings will improve your experience on HubPages.

      Ari

Seriously. This bugs the snot outta me. I know I can go in and click 'unfollow' but sometimes, even after that, I get updates about things I don't really care about.

Well said...never thought about bugging the snot out of me, but, oh, that works so well to put an image on my thoughts. I've got sinus issues from time to time, talk about snot. Perfect!

Nope. This is a complicated site. I didn't know about the spam filter for example until we had that spam attack and somebody mentioned it.

These suggestion have now been acted upon but it looks like no one from admin felt it was necessary to announce it.  You can now choose "follow" or "unfollow" as your defaults.  I found the new setting options early Sunday morning.

Oh good. Give me another thing to think about and act on.

Thanks for the info, relache. I never would have found it if it weren't for this thread. So much for timely communication from the team.

Yay!  Thank goodness, I agree Sherri, that this should be an option that we select, rather than default!  Best, Steph

p.s.  Same thing with "follow this forum thread."  smile
