Unpublished Hubs Appearing With Live Links!

I just discovered at least one of my unpublished hubs appeared at the bottom of one of my published hubs, in the area where the site loads hubs we have written on similar topics.  I reported this to admin but wanted to mention it here in case it will get spotted and fixed more quickly.  I'm worried this could affect Google traffic by making it look like we have hubs with low-quality content.

      @Marcy

Sorry for the delay in responding.

So you are seeing links to unpublished Hubs appearing below published Hubs?

And this is only for unpublished Hubs that are in a group?
Are the unpublished Hub links that are showing in error in the same group as the published Hubs?

We would love to help figure this out and send to our engineering team.

Can you provide an example Hub that is showing unpublished links?

        I have a hub:
        melbel.hubpages.com/hub/Tibetan-Tea
At the bottom it has a link to: A Photo Tour of the Amalfi Coast (which is unpublished.)

I looked at this Hub and the links it is showing now seem to all be published Hubs.  The following are your Hubs I saw links for in the "PREVIOUS" and "NEXT" sections at the bottom.

          http://melbel.hubpages.com/hub/annapurna-circuit
          http://melbel.hubpages.com/hub/Most-Dangerous-Airports

I don't doubt this is occurring, but do need to document it so that our engineering team has something with which to start.

If anyone sees this again, can you grab a screenshot?

Hi, Matthew - yes, the hub that appeared was in the same group (about Green and Environmental topics).  The unpublished hub has a title about LEED certification.  After reading the comments and suggestions below, I moved it to the Orphans section, and it didn't appear.  But it was a live link when I tested it.

MelBel has listed an example in one of her hubs - (thanks, Mel!).  I'm just wondering if this is happening all across HP and perhaps affecting traffic if search engines detect live links that have little or no content?  The only way I spotted this issue was by accidentally noticing my own photo appearing as the thumbnail for the hub where the link was posted.

Meanwhile, I've put all unpublished hubs into the Orphans section to see if that helps prevent the problem.  Thanks for any help you can offer!

My unpublished hubs in a group shows up at the bottom of my other hubs, when I am logged in?  smile

One of mine showed up that way - yes.  I haven't checked others - only ran across it by accident.

Next time you see one, log out, it will appear different.

It even shows the sentence that says This hub is unpublished; only you can see it.

Weird stuff going on lately here.  I'm still concerned about some in-test links I discovered in some of most trafficked hubs and how they got there.  I hope you have a better response from staff on your problem than I have so far, Marcy.  smile

I had the same issue, my unpublished hub would have been a catastrophe had it been available for viewing.  Logged out immediately to check the page!  That is how I discovered that all hubs in the group show up while logged in.

If you remove them from the group, you will not see them at all, logged or not.

So the issue is when we have put them in groups before they're published?  Interesting, because staff has said we can sort them into groups even if uppublished and they won't appear until we publish them.  Off to redo my groups.  Let's see if that works.  Creepy stuff - feels like someone is able to look into my messy closet or something.

So you're saying that we are the only ones who can see unpublished hubs that are in groups (and that show up on the two links of what else we have written?). Hmmm. That is odd, too.  Unless we are in edit mode or in our account pages, we should see what readers see. Or at least that's how it should be.

I moved the unpublished hub into the Orphans group. It's not showing up where it was before, but this still gives me the creeps.

If you go to one of the unpublished hubs in a group, log out, you will see a message that the hub is no longer published.

I leave unpublished hubs in a group to give me incentive to finish them.  I can tell they are not published because I see my avi as the pic.

Everything looks different as a guest.  smile

I've generally been a good little hubber and put all my unpublished hubs in their own, separate group. I'm so proud... big_smile

I've never kept but one unpublished hub at a time on my account.  I seldom work on anything on the site itself unless I am arranging the capsules for publication.  So I've not noticed this happening before.  Probably just a glitch.

I actually had a similar problem. I had to save a hub unpublished because I was having issues with capsules (go figure) and between the time I saved it and then finished it out and resaved it it had 2 views! It didn't make any sense to me and I thought it was just a glitch, but apparently not if it's showing up in the group links...

Before  it is published, the views that are accrued are yours.

Does editing count as views? I don't click on the actual link, just the edit box. I've never seen it happen before when I've done this so it was kinda weird to see the first time lol

I've had this problem for QUITE a while... like maybe a year. I just make sure to remove anything I unpublish from groups.

It's probably a good idea to leave an unpublished hub out of groups until you publish it then. Good tip, I'll keep that in mind.

Ditto on the phantom views.  I've even had 'views' when all I did was to create the title and URL.

Matthew, I just checked my groups, while logged in, yes the hubs do show links of unpublished hubs that are live.  Once logged out the link at the bottom of the hub goes to the next published hub in the group.

I believe the unpublished live links can only be seen by the hubber while they are logged in. wink

I believe also it has been that way since I joined the site.
It is not a problem as no-one else can see the links.

I find it helpful, it allows me to fill in which links I want to appear at the bottom of each hub.  I can plan my next project.

I agree Izzy that has been my experience too.

If I want to I just relocate the unpublished hub to my unpublished group on groups and move the remaining hubs around to make the ones that match up best appear next to each other.

It never registered as an error to me, as I assumed only I could see the unpublished hub and message on it.

        Thanks for the additional info.

I wasn't logging in as the Hub owner, thus my not seeing the unpublished Hubs.

It sounds like some people either like or are used to the way it works now, while others find it annoying or troublesome.

If enough people would like this to work differently, it can be sent as a feature request.

I think Hubbers who have been on the site for a while may have figured out that only they can see the unpublished hubs appearing there, however, newer members may not easily realize that they aren't visible to others. It can be freaky to suddenly think on of your unfinished hubs went 'live' without your knowledge.  I'd personall prefer that, as much as possible, we see what the viewer would see on our hubs whenever we're logged in.  Just IMO.

That cannot happen, you have extra ads while logged out, cannot see them when logged in due to edit/stats bar.  The reader cannot see that.

HP should explain how this works within the Learning Center, if they do not already.  Like you, maybe it is better to leave unpublished hubs outside of groups until they are ready for publication.  I personally use this to structure my groups, would be sad to see it change, not being able to place unpublished hubs within a group. sad
