New Hubber with questions

   I am just getting into this and don't really know a whole lot.  I am willing to learn and work at it though.  I like domestic issues, like being a stay at home mom, homeschooling, cooking, my Christian faith.  These are things I like to talk about so I guess these are the things I would "hub" about.  If I were to make a special recipe for angel food cake, for example, does it matter if the recipe is uniquely mine or if it is one I used from a website or tv show?  If I am just reviewing and demonstrating the steps to make it, taking my own pictures, is that acceptable?  (Not sure if this is the right place for this, forgive me if it isn't.)  I really need to make some money from home!

      You can use the same ingredients of a recipe, but you must re-word the method. Put that in your own words and it isn't a copy then.
      
      Using your own photos are a great idea.
      
      You can also write a little about where you found the recipe, and what you think of it, as an intro perhaps. or anything else you want to write about it.
      
      Of course, adding the other recipe capsules is a great idea too - the nutritional content for example.

         Thank you!  That helps.  If I got one say from food network, one of my favorite chefs, then can I write about the chef and his/her show?  I actually made an angel food cake for the first time yesterday and thought that would be a good article to write, posting pics of my steps.  I suppose it would be moderated if I do something wrong.

            Absolutely! Why should the only article out there be what the experts have written? You are the everyday expert, you tried it, and your opinion counts!
            
            To avoid being the same as every other article someone might write out there, giving your unique opinion is extremely helpful to readers/searchers.
            
            It is actually quite hard to 'do something wrong' here. Check out the learning center if you are in doubt, but original writing is welcome, so your recipe, and your take on it, plus your own photos etc, is all brand new to the web.
            
            My recipe hubs don't do so well, even though they may be unique to the web, or were when I wrote them, but  some people have reported great success with recipes.

      Welcome to HubPages and it's Forums.
      That's good. Check out the Learning Center, read the Forum rules page, read the HubPages FAQ's page and use search feature to locate other information. A lot of Hubs have been dedicated to help.
      
      Sunforged, one of the resident Gurus on Internet Writing, Publishing and Marketing is just one example of honesty.
      Just be careful about the topics you choose because you don't want to write in a saturated market.
      There are lots of topics you can choose from.
      Uniqueness is best.
      I guess you could as long as the recipe itself isn't already online. The pictures themselves wouldn't matter if the content itself is duplicated from something already online.
      A lot of people are wanting and realize that online can make a living. But, it requires a lot of information and trial and error experimentation to get it to work properly.

         Thank you, I have been reading a lot in the learning center!  I don't need a full time income from home, but even $100-$200 a month would help, one can hope....and try hard!

   I find that once I have made a recipe a few times, I always end up changing a few things, whether it's the oven temperature, ingredients or something else. Putting your own personal spin on a recipe can make even a TV chef's dish seem like your own.
   
   Also, something that is valuable to me as a cook is getting first-hand advice from someone who has made the dish. I love allrecipes.com for that reason, because most of their recipes have reviews posted from people who have made the dish, stating what they liked about it, what they didn't like and how they tweaked it to make it better.
   
   So, even if you are putting up a recipe that is not your own, you can put your own spin on it and/or tell about your experience making it. I find these recipes much more helpful and would rather use them than a recipe straight from a food website where they provide only the most basic of instructions. I prefer to know the little tips and secrets that make the recipe more successful. Adding those touches is one small way to help make your recipe hubs more successful and make them your own.
