Do you think religion is something that should be discussed?

   There is a clear divide between people who are religious and those who are not. Many discussions are started, not just on HubPages, but everywhere else as well, where religion is brought into an argument or conversation. For most people their beliefs are solid and they either believe in a God or do not. It is hard to tell a person they are wrong or right when discussion religion and for that it brings up the question on whether people should actually discuss religion since it is almost impossible to change someones mind on that particular subject. What do you think about it?

      The only place I discuss religion is on the net. It is rare here (where I am from) for religion to be discussed as in depth as it is on the net. Apart from missionaries who we rarely see, discussions are left within the walls of the churches of whatever faith. It is never even enquired into when you first meet a person. It rarely if ever comes up in conversation even in the most devout.
      
      I am not sure whether or not we are different to other countries?
      
      Perhaps, where there is love what faith you belong to does not matter?

   The problem is mostly with the religious folk who are unable to see past themselves long enough to tell the difference between truth and ego truth.

   Yes, the internet is about the only place I have conversations on religion. I don't see anything wrong with having a conversation about it, but it's pretty taboo here; probably for the reasons you gave.
   
   I don't see conversations on the subject as attempts to change anyone's mind, but to share ideas. And that is a good thing. Imo.

      I absolutely love to discuss religion, for exactly the reason you mention.  My preference is to do so in person.  People are much more responsive to facial expression and body language during face to face conversations, and in some ways, folks who a part of your every day 'physical' life may know you and be way more familiar than your internet friends (or new acquaintances) with what kind of actions you take in life that line up with what you SAY you believe.
      
      I agree with Cags, to a point, in that EGO driven attitudes by all conversation participants, regardless of belief or lack thereof, is what turns an open minded exchange of ideas into a knock-down/drag-out FIGHT that winds up bloody and concerned only with whose arm gets held up at the end of the match.
      
      Sad, but true.

   I don't discuss religion with my friends because they are very young and close minded and don't know why they believe what they believe. But I'll talk about religion with my boyfriend, parents, sisters, teachers, professors and my friends who are a little smarter. And of course, people on the net.
   
   Hell I'll debate anyone when it comes to religion. I don't go out of my way to do it or anything, but I won't tip-toe around it.
