Do you like historical novels?  Why?

If you could read a historical novel based on a person, event, or time period, what would it be?  What makes that person/event/time so fascinating to you?

I like historical novels. They always get me interested in reading about the real people involved.

I really like novels about the wives of Henry VII.

I love historical novels, they bring parts of the world to life that you could never have experienced before. Michael Shaara and his son Jeff Shaara have written some truly stunning examples. (The Killer Angels, Gods and Generals, The Steel Wave etc.)

I've always loved historical fiction.  I am not too fussed about the period - anywhere from Ancient Rome to WW1 will do.  Particularly like C J Sansom's Shardlake series, Elizabeth Chadwick's medieval novels, some of the various Regency crime series and Bernard Cornwell.  Also like "Age of Sail" type novels.  Have been known to read romances, as long as they are historical.  I'll stop now smile

Weaving fact in with fiction makes for a very credible story.

I enjoy the genre, expecially those novels of James A. Michener. Centennial, Space, Chesapeake, Hawaii, The Source, and Texas are shining examples of Historical Fiction. He was a master at weaving a fictional storyline through real charactors, times, and places, and introducing interesting charactors who complemented the storyline to the point where it is often difficult to discern who is real, and who is not. Personally, I have read my favorites, Centennial and Space, some dozen times apiece.

I now enjoy historical novels since I have become a student of the Bible. I love reading about how prophecy has come true, is brought to life and confirms the truth and wisdoms of the Bible. (some facts may be distorted in history based on lack of resources, information and one's own experiences), but I enjoy it. I also love historical fiction pertaining to the holocaust such as "The Diary of Anne Frank," and "Sarah's Key."
