A substantial portion of my work was duplicated and I am told to revise the work. I was definitely the author of the work and want to know how we can better protect ourselves from plagiarists. It is frustrating to be the author of the work and instead be accused of duplicating.
I had the same thing happen to me. My work was posted on my own website. I removed it to put it here, but unfortunately someone had embedded it and the link to my website into their site. I could ask them to take it down, but I suspect it's an abandoned website. Anyway, until they remove it (and it is attributed to me), I'm stuck not using my own work here. A Google of your work will find out where it is in the big land of cyberspace.
This free tool works well for me to hunt down things like this. You can either copy/paste the hub text into the window and search or copy/paste the hub URL into the other window and search. This will find things that Google will miss at times.

If your work is on another writing site than it is considered duplicated content. If you wish for your work to be on this site than you have to remove it from the other site so that it is de-indexed and then post.
You are being told the work is duplicate--that is a fact not an accusation. i would suggest Googling excerpts from the hub to find where the duplicate is.

I noticed today that one of my best articles (that really needs a rewrite) has been duplicated on a website called PetRadars.com. They copied everything from the title to the comments, though they left out the poll and all but one photo. They list on the bottom that they duplicated the article...

So, they claim that my poem is a duplicate content. HubPages, are you serious? I hope no one on the internet is taking and stealing my fantasies and creative ideas. Nobody has a cable attached to my brain. The only thing is that I put a quote in a callout capsule and the poem was about 260 words in...

I recently published an article that was flagged as duplicate content and removed. How do I go about trying to figure out what portion is duplicated? It's a long article. Is it possible because I copied a portion of the previous article I wrote as a review of information that it was flagged?...

What's the hubpages view on copying free license text and passing it off as your own?Even if quoted, its duplicate content.. which I'm sure would be penalized.. but is it acceptable to do it in the first place?I was just looking at a hub by a constantly-complaining hubber - and her hub is 100%...

So, I had my hub moderated as substandard and I didn't see what made it so. I mailed them and got this reply:Well, the hub in question only had some text portions copied from my own hubs. But still, it's counted as duplicated and further considered substandard as the percentage of duplication was...
