Fluctuation in hub score

   What makes a hub score fluctuate?

      I´m sure there are a lot better answers out there, since I am fairly new at this, but my score went up to 100 and then dropped for no apparant reason. It seems the score is based on participation in questions, number of hubs published per day (one or two at least, not too many), answering comments, making other comments, voting up or down other hubs...Am I forgetting something? I read a comment somewhere that it is determined by the tried and true dartboard method!

         Thanks, Mark, I was actually thinking about it since scores fluctuate for no apparent reason! I suppose the bottom line is that as long as you are participative, that's the essence of it! Thanks for coming by!

      I'm not really sure. I'm still new to HP but I know that I was a bit worried yesterday, my score had fallen to 83 but now it has shot up to 88.... I really didn't do very much just answered a few questions and posted a few comments I haven't written a new Hub since Tuesday. It's an odd thing.

         That's what I'm thinking, wonder writer. I guess it's the participation is asking and answering questions and commenting. It is odd!

   Generally the score relates to your participation in HP - hubs posted, forums, comments etc.  It does move up and down a few points all the time, even if nothing much changes, so I think there's an element of randomness.  The score doesn't really affect things like traffic or earnings so many of us just ignore it.

      Actually, do you mean the hubber's score, or score of an individual hub?

   I post regularly and maintain a low score I use to get a 100 when I promoted or wrote new Hubs but with updates and tweaks n what not by HP or the big 'G', I think scores will always fluctuate.

   I think in terms of your hubber author score, really HP are just using it as a way of encouraging people to engage in behavior that that they want to see - writing, commenting, hub-hopping etc.  The score will also go down if you do things they don't like - such as deciding to follow 200 other hubbers all in one day.   But it generally doesn't matter much and fluctuates 5 or 10 points up and down naturally - we all worry about it when we first joing HP then most of us ignore it!
   
   The score of an individual hub (rather than the author score) also fluctuates - it seems to benefit from high traffic, comments, votes up etc.  If your hub has a very low score after it's been posted for a few months, say under 50, then I would definitely consider trying to improve it, or if that doesn't work, deleting or moving it out of your account - as a few bad apples can bring your entire account down in terms of traffic and earnings.  The hub score is not directly related to traffic and earnings, but can sometimes be a useful indicator of problems with an individual hub.

      Thanks, Paul, for the insights. I think many of us have always wondered why it changes about, and generally know that it benefits from traffic and comments, but it can be frightening when it stays static. It does keep you on your toes and is somewhat a good thing when it happens, though.

   I often wonder about this too Michelle! I find that some days when I am barely on HP I have a higher score than days I am more active here. I tend to go up and down about 5 points throughout the week (a range). Good idea for a thread!
