Is there a way to control, mitigate or eliminate altogether - the ability to log in as a guest simply to make irrelevant and harassing comments on a targetted hubber's pieces (hubs)?
Yes, denying the comment is easy, but should we really have to devote any of our writing time to babysitting our hubs?
If you're being harassed by someone leaving comments I would contact HP staff. The offender will no doubt leave their IP address and maybe that would be a way to block them. Good luck.
Thank you, Hollie. The thing is, I know exactly who the clown is who's doing this. In his "legit" entity, he with whom I had a rancorous political exchange, right after I got very aggressive (had in flesh Counsel ready) because he was not punished for conduct the worse than mine (yes, I dropped the f-bomb a couple times) which got me an involuntary 3-day hiatus from the forums, and I feared my inability to rebut him would have financial losses for me (the teeth of my very-nearly filed civil action. Still, I know VERY well that "knowing" and proving are apples and oranges.
I know it can be difficult to do, but I would just ignore and delete the little ***** comments. MM's right, they get off on your attention and love it when they know that they have caused you stress. Think naughty, malevolent child, when they do not get the attention they so crave, and have not caused the level of harm they wish, they implode somewhere else.
That's when you get the last laugh.
You can disallow anonymous comments either by editing the comments capsule in a particular Hub, or on all of your Hubs using the global comment capsule settings available here:

RIGHHHT! I forgot about that. I must have "mis-membered" it as an AC feature, but the they've changed names and gotten a whole new system, and so I'm once aagain behind on the learning curve. I will make that setting change PRONTO! TYVM!
A degree of babysitting comes with the territory on hubs.
But usually if you deny the harrasser's comments a couple of times (don't fan the flames) they'll lose interest and go away.
Oh, man. You mean stay focused and mature an' all that? But, Mighty Moooooooooooommmmm! You are right, of course, and I have chosen that course of action (denying, and not reacting). LH is being persistent, but I have a teeeeeeeny bit of a stubborn streak, myself! Thanks for the counterbalance and wisdom.

This has been discussed a number of times, but I think it's time to bring it up again because lately I've been denying loads of comments that I view as spam. And, just now, I've been told by someone whose comments Ive denied that "hubs are here for comments". No, they aren't. If they...

I have read quite a few hubs recently where people have been upset by disgusting or just plain rude comments directed at their work, mainly by anonymous hubbers with no content, and also stealing other peoples hubs. My question is, do you think they should be allowed to join and stay...

Should I deny poorly-spelled comments? Are they deliberate?I had a comment left by "Justin Beiber" saying: "Feeli'n bad for em' all" on an article about animals going extinct.I get a lot of comments like that. I'm starting to think they're left by people from rival sites trying...

What do you do when you have such a ridiculous comment posted on one of your blogs that you are really tempted to approve it, just so you can blast the reader?Okay, not blast...I've been thinking about "polite" responses I could add. Remarks that would make me look even better :-)When...

Normally, I approve 99% of all comments left on my hubs. But twice today, and once yesterday, there were comments left, all by "anonymous," that I simply denied because they were just way out of line. Not demeaning, offensive, hateful, or anything like that...just WAY off topic.In...

Hi Hubbers! Today I have some news to share related to Hub comment moderation. While we have traditionally used a nearly 100% community-run comment moderation system, we are concerned because there are in fact thousands of potentially low-quality anonymous comments across the site. Thoughtful and...
