Adsense Link Uniits

   I've just noticed that the additional Adsense ad units that were implemented a few weeks back seem to have changed back into link units.
   
   I know some people don't really rate them but I use them elsewhere and do relatively well with them, if you've got your own site/blog etc. and use link units, how well do they work for you?

   It is all very unstable. Sometimes they work better then regular units, most of the time worse - on the same spot. I was not able to figure out any pattern yet. But if you have a spare ad space on your page, sure why not use them

   Hmmmm...perhaps this is why my earnings are down a bit.
   
   Isn't it true that in order to get paid for a click that the reader has to click on another link on the page it directs too? I've been seeing some really low priced clicks, so that is probably what is going on....blech.
   
   This is, however, increasing my CTR because I don't think link ads count as impressions.

   GG, Yeah I believe the same to be true, that with a link unit you need two clicks to earn, I don't do too badly with them elsewhere, but it's all a matter of positioning, it does seem a little odd though that HP has reverted back to link units after discarding them only a few weeks back, has their deal with Google for displaying additional ad units turned sour, or have they decided that they make more by displaying link units???

      I've always seen my earnings drop when my CTR falls under a certain amount. Four days ago, it had gotten really low because of lots of internal traffic to one of my featured hubs. Now, my CTR is shooting through the roof...my CTR is almost back into the 'safe range' that I've heard can affect smart pricing. I think it's back to the safe range because of these link ads.
      
      I was at the point where I was almost desperate enough to turn down the ads on certain hubs so I'd get less impressions (I don't think link ads count for as many impressions). These links have taken care of the issue...but I wonder how they'll ultimately affect earnings. Obviously if they do poorly, I'm sure they'll be fixed.
      
      Who knows...we might start seeing higher earnings since our CTR rates will increase and hopefully affect the types of ads that google displays on our pages.

      HP uses a state of the art ad optimizer called YieldBuild. No human decision is involved in deciding what ads formats to show in what spot. I use it too, and trust me (despite of my new pic), it works wonders.

   Obviously higher CTR and ultimately higher earnings are what we all hope for, and whilst I have some experience in this area, I like to believe that the HP staff have more experience than me, and that this change back to link units is based upon the fact that (as you suggest) it will ultimately increase our earnings.
   
   It just seemed a little odd to me coming so soon after the recent announcement of the change to additional ad units, but these things are out of our hands at HP, and I'm sure that whichever way HP decide to go, it will bring us increased earning power (fingers crossed).

   I'm sure it will ultimately help, as it is in HubPages best interest to use the best form of ads! Maybe they are just testing it out, and if it does terribly, it will be changed back.
