Small town business ideas and tips on how to get it started?

   What business do you think would do best in a small town area? Restaurant/Diner? Flower shop? Convenience store? I look forward to reading your suggestions and ideas!

      with any business having a niche or offering a service is as meaningful as the location but there is no way to predict better or worse for a specific area.

      Whatever you choose to do, make sure you know your customers. The social/economic status, population, expendable cash are all factors, as is the seasons etc.
      You have skills and strengths, so do some brain storming .
      Also ask online in a forum what people want and are looking for, Make a questionnaire.

   See what you miss having where you live, and then sound out people to learn whether others miss it too.
   
   For example, where I live, there is no wholefood shop. Apparently, there was one some years ago and it was very successful. It closed when the couple who ran it moved away. Therefore, in my village, this would be a serious option for someone to consider. Unfortunately, all we seem to get is yet another hairdresser or gift shop, which then closes after a short period due to lack of customers!

   Thank you, everyone. I am brand new to this site and have much to learn before I will attempt at a real hub so I figured I would begin with a general question that I genuinely have an interest in. You all make excellent points and suggestions. Thank you! We are actually inbetween two different towns, so a business would probably attract customers from both, if not other surrounding cities/communities. This is why I am having a hard time deciding on which direction I should go. Rest assured, I will heed your advice and input while making the decision.

      Starting a business in your area all depends on what is missing in your area and what people would be interested in.  I live in a town of 120 people in rural Nebraska where it would be difficult to start a new business in this ranching and farming community.  I have, however, a hobby of making jewelry which I sell at local businesses which they put on their counters and I give them a small amount of my sales. Earrings, and bracelets that are farm/ranch related.  I'm not getting rich, but I do get special orders from places like John Deere.  Best of luck finding your niche in your area.  If you build it they will come.....

         Sarra, that is awesome for you. I, however, do not possess such a skill. I'm not very creative when it comes to crafts and things. Although...I did once make a rock look like a duck or goose face. LOL

   Family day care center if parents need a place for their kids while they are at work.

      The day care won't work for our home. We live above my husband's shop and don't have adequate room for a bunch of children. In our state you can only have so many children in the home (including your own) before you need to be licensed to watch children, with me having 3 children of my own, I could watch 1 or 2 kids, that is all. I have thought about your suggestion, ripplemaker, and for reasons mentioned above, I don't think it'd work, though I'd love to do it!!
