It seems to me that politicians and religionists who purport to be pro-life are in fact, anti-life in the long run. They claim that life begins at conception and once conception begins, the woman should carry the pregnancy to fruition and not to terminate it for any reason whatsoever. They seem not to realize the psychological and emotional ramifications of being forced to carry a child that is unwanted.
To these pundits, there is no such thing as an unwanted child. To them, the concept of an unwanted is only in the eyes of "self-involved" women. They maintain that it is the woman's duty to carry the pregnancy to term and to keep the child if possible. Studies have shown that having and raising an unwanted child creates undue stress for the mother. There is also less mother-child bonding when the child is unwanted. Lastly, unwanted children are more likely to be abandoned and abused by the mother than if the child is wanted.
However, such facts are ignored by these politicians and religionists who strongly portend that once a woman becomes pregnant, she is to have the child. The cause of the pregnancy is also inconsequential to these pundits. If these reactionary pundists have their way, Roe vs Wade would be overturned and women again have to resort to surreptitious, back alley abortions. In my opinion, these pro-lifers are anti-lifers, against the life of the mother and subsequently the life of the child who will subsequently be ill-treated either physically, emotionally, and/or psychologically because he/she is unwanted. Let's discuss this!
Should we kill unwanted children(born children) so they don't have to suffer the difficult life ahead of them?
Exactly.
OP-Everyone goes through psychological and emotional trauma at some point. That's called life. No one has the right to take life away from an innocent person.
Hey now here is something we can agree on. I am pro-choice for a number of reasons, but the biggest one is that if a woman who is pregnant truly does not want that child for whatever reason, then she and the child should not be forced into a relationship that is dysfunctional from the start. I have had two children and know that it was right for me to carry and birth them. I also know that for those who feel the opposite that feeling must be very real and they are likely dead on that they should not give birth to that child. The argument of taking away life from a person is limited because it doesn't take into account the reality that once here, the so called life they will lead is often filled with trauma, neglect and abuse both emotional and physical as a direct result of being unwanted. It's not easy to justify ending life at any point but it is certainly no better to condemn someone to hell on earth if there is a choice.
When authority proceed logic, the results of reasoning must correspond to already dictated ends. There is no logic only paint by numbers.
If conservatives want to push an anti-abortion agenda, then they should with equal force push for tougher child support laws that don't let baby daddies off the hook so easily. If a woman's punishment is to give birth then the man's should be to pay for at least half of everything. It takes two to make a baby.
The same people who are so-called "Pro-life", Republicans, cut food assistance for the poor, oppose universal health care and support the death penalty.
Apparently you lose your right to life the moment you are born.
We so often look at this whole subject in the context of right and wrong instead of looking at it logically. Abortions will continue to happen, just as they always have. Legal abortion guarantees a woman a safe medical treatment instead of the back alley. Bottom line is no matter how you feel about the act itself, you will punish women by putting their life at risk if choosing not to carry a pregnancy to term and at the same time make her a criminal. That is why this is called a war on women by so many.
gmwilliams, what a PHENOMENAL post. Heck yeah!!! You are right on all counts, and I'm so GLAD I caught it. I especially loved the reference to back-alley abortions; as long as women can get pregnant, there will be abortions.
Another thing I have issues with understanding is how these politicos can be "pro-life" and support the death penalty with every fiber of their beings. What sense does that make???

What percentage of pro-lifers financially support kids through age 18 who were at risk of abortion?I believe that couples should NOT CREATE A CHILD if either of them is uncertain that they want, can afford or financially support a child. I also believe that people should have the right to choose...

Is abortion about women’s right or is it about the right to life?I get so mixed up in that debate, it would seem that the right to life outweighs any right of personal choice, but many see it much different. What is your opinion about abortion? What supersedes what? Do men have a right to a choice...

Since Roe vs. Wade, there have been more than 55 million abortions in America. Does anyone care? How do you personally feel about this number? They say 86% of abortions today are done out of CONVENIENCE. Isn't the number sobering when you think of all the lives lost? This year...

Abortion is THE MOST CONTENTIOUS arena and subject of American politics. Abortion also generates the MOST VISCERAL reaction among people. However, what business and concern it is whether a woman elects to have an abortion. She knows the reason and the circumstances as to why she...

I have read threads regarding the stance of prolifers who assert proudly that a woman who becomes pregnant, should keep and raise her child. They loudly condemn abortion in all cases even rape. Well, I am totally appalled by this naturally as a staunch pro-choice...
