My Pops taught me how to stand up for myself. How not to take crap from anyone, how to dream big, as well as to pursue those dreams with vigour and a fervent heart. Happy Father's Day, Dad!
I have never heard my father yell or raise his voice at all. Kinda surprising since he was an Army Sergeant. He also was a sharp shooter and instructor with medals in pistol and rifle. I'm sure he is responsible for my work ethic.
My dad is a wonderful man.
He taught me:
how to climb trees inadequately
how much fun you could have with a stick
how to run away effectively
to be terrified of the dark
and spiders
how to drive. Like you own the road
how to strip a chicken like a caveman
how to play rugby. The kind when the ref isn't looking
how to cheat at pub quizzes
how to drink. And look suitably drunk
how much fun you can have at a beach with seaweed
He also taught me:
how to have fun
to laugh
to enjoy life
respect
how to handle lifes' knocks
and a whole bunch of other useful 'get along in life' tools
Happy Fathers day to my dad. And dads everywhere
My Dad..through his words and actions taught me what it means to be Man, a Husband, Father and and Grandfather. These values will last a lfetime...Thanks Dad!!!!
My Dad is dead, nicest thing that I could think to say about him.....jimmy
Dad you are simply the best
With you in my life, I am truly blessed
and even though we’re miles apart
I love you so much, with all my heart
HAPPY FATHERS DAY
Love, E.
I am ultimately grateful for the life, the actual physical life, my father gave me through his seed. And frankly that is probably the best thing I could say about what he gave to me.
I have had to do a lot of forgiveness and creating of a better internal father archetype for myself this life.
Before he died when I was 20 years old, he did provide a few good examples for life...he made and built a lot of things in his workshop, setting an example of inventiveness, determination and the focus and organization needed to accomplish such things. He also did his best to provide a house and basic physical needs for his family, which he obviously was dedicated to doing.
This is my first Fathers Day without my dad. He died last November.
I'm lucky in that he reached the ripe old age of 85 and I got to be there with him to the end.
The qualities I admired most in him are:
1. Loyalty -- he was extremely devoted to his parents, to his wife, and to his family and friends.
2. Faith -- he was devout. It was a blessing to be there with him and pray with a priest who gave him his last rites. Before that my dad and I had shared spiritual time with the chaplain. He was not afraid to die. As a result, I was able to lose my fear of losing him.
3.Modesty -- My dad quietly moved up in the world from being a fireman's son in the Bronx to being an internationally known labor attorney. But he didn't boast or brag about his accomplishments.
4. Prudence -- Through his conservative habits he was able to put away quite a bit of money and he invested wisely in the stock market. Even raising a family he always saved more than he spent.
5.Humor -- My dad was a wonderful story teller. Being Irish, he had a gift for it. He was able to remember the details of his stories -- whether they were from his WWII exploits or us kids growing up -- until the very end of his life.
Not sure how to say this, but the most amazing thing about my dad was he used to be a G-man. Yes, an FBI agent! But the Dad I remember most vividly is the devoted grandfather (much mellowed) he became. That duality really blows me away.
Here's to my Dad. I love him and miss him.

This is always a bittersweet time for me ... I love my father but we are not close. Father's Day always reminds me of the distance between us.

If dad is not in the picture, do you honor your mother on Father's Day?

What do you think is the ideal Father's Day celebration? Is it more about being with family, your kids, eating a great meal at home, or eating out at a restaurant, the gifts, etc. My father is no longer around and we enjoy old stories about places we went to, or funny things we did together, as well...

What was the best present you have given your dad on Father's Day?I have never given a present to my father on father's day and now I don't have the chance to because he died when I was 13. If I could turn back time I would have baked him something since I was good at making desserts. What was the...
