Complaints about automated calls up sharply
By JENNIFER C. KERR | Associated Press Mon, Sep 17, 2012
Complaints to the government are up sharply about unwanted phone solicitations, raising questions about how well the federal "do-not-call" registry is working. The biggest category of complaint: those annoying prerecorded pitches called robocalls that hawk everything from lower credit card interest rates to new windows for your home.
To file a complaint with the FTC, people can go online to www.ftc.gov or call 888-382-1222 to report their experience for possible enforcement.

My friends, family and I  are getting more telemarketing and Robo calls each week, even though we are all registered with the Do No Call Registry.
    Anyone else?

No, not registered. Though it may be time consuming, I would recommend calling each company and informing the company to take you off their call list. If you receive a call from the company you can report them.

I seem to remember when I first registered that you had to re-register every five years or so - maybe wrong but worth checking out! Well apparently they should be permanent - but that only came into law in 2007 - so not sure if phones registered before that weren't permanent - just re-registered mine just in case!

I think that is true but the law has so many loopholes and some marketers just don't check the registry and call anyway.

Yeah hmm my sons and I hate answering the calls but we have family that place long distant calls from wherever they happen to be and no specific # to watch for, doesn't help tongue it's annoying as hey. I think we should prank call our local leaders with fake marketing calls to see how they like it lol mob flash style.

    Stacie,

We have something similar for the Do Not Call Register in Australia. As we are beleaguered by phone calls from overseas call centres trying to ask folk to change their phone carrier and similar.

It is a hit or miss here and we have been asked to not register mobile numbers. Which is a higher rate of registries actually (for mobiles rather than land line registrations)

But the more one jumps up and down, the govt eventually listens.
