I'm having trouble quitting. It helps with stress....
My brother in law was a three pack a day smoker and quit after having open heart surgery. To overcome the urges to have something in his mouth he chewed on straws. He went through a lot of straws, but he never smoked again. He did gain a lot of weight though, because, he said, he could actually taste food.
Don't bother with acupuncture; it's only a placebo. Keep telling yourself that smoking is slow suicide. That might help.
Try acupuncture to quit and meditation or other physical activity for stress. Best of luck to you and remember: never quit trying to quit...
Hey, it is one of the most addictive substances there is...(nicotine). But, through understanding why we do an unhealthy habit we can untangle ourselves from the emotional aspect of it.
Drink lots of water too.
I had trouble to.. though I admit I have not completely quit.. but U have greatly reduced... Denise is right.. acupuncture and meditation do help...
When you feel the urge... start taking deep breaths and close your eyes.... and think of other things.... Water helps too...
One more thing you can do is shift to an alternative which is easily available and not harmful like a fruit or some candy......
The urge can then be reprogrammed to shift to the alternative and then completely thrown out
You can use nicotine patches and also there are plastic tubes (can't remember the proper name), you use them to inhale as a cigarette but just get a hit of nicotine rather than all the other nasty chemicals in a cigarette. Nicotine is very addictive as you are aware and it can take a smoker many many times before they successfully quit, so don't give up trying to quit. Your doctor may be able to direct you to a specialist program where there are people on a similar situation. Sometimes this helps.
Just a note which I found very interesting. I was interviewing a Vietnam war veteran who quit because he was told that the opposition would be able to track him much quicker due to the smell of cigarettes smoke on him.
Anyway, good luck, don't give up giving up.
Not sure if I'm of any help, because I'm not a smoker. However, I do know a person at work who has quit by using Chantix. He's been smoke free for about 2-years so far. He doesn't have cravings to smoke and loves being free.
Hi Everyone,
It is no doubt to feel that if we have become the victim of any bad habit such as smoking then It is far more difficult to leave it. With this revolution time Era, These useless habit loss even more. If we have a strong will and want to leave it then a strong time table and activities are needed to leave.
Thanks for raising the topic

Which alternative works best for you?*me*I have tried patches which help for the first few weeks and then lose their touch for me at least. I never have been a fan...
