I'm sure we have all heard of Romney doing a tap dance when it comes to giving specific answers to just about any question he is asked. Why is this? I watched Fareed Zacharia on CNN today and he posited something very interesting. He thinks it's because the radical right wing is much further right than Romney is. Therefore If he says what he really thinks about his plans for the economy and the nation, he will alienate the power brokers of the right wing. This includes the Tea Party, Karl Rove, Grover Norquist, and Ralph Reed. We all know what the Tea Party is about and who Karl Rove is. But Grover Norquist is the guy who has almost every GOP congressman sign a pledge not to raise taxes under any circumstances, ever. He runs a protection racket, where if you don't comply with his wishes, you will not get reelected when your term is up. Ralph Reed is head of the Faith and Freedom Coalition that has 10 to 12 million ready to support Romney, if he supports their agenda. His Christian Coalition is the voting bloc that helped get George W elected for his second term. Have they painted him into a corner where he can't say what's really on his mind, lest he loses their support? What are your thought on this?
I believe they have. Not all Republicans are ultra conservative - nor is Romney. I hope he wins then governs as more moderate do.
Yes. They've put Romney between a rock and a hard place. Or, to put it another way, he's put himself there.
The constant shifting of messages and "reboots" signify dissention within the campaign.
There have been innumerable "walk backs" of things Romney has said on the trail that have later been refuted as "not what he really meant." (Clearly, that IS what he meant -- when he goes off script and his real ideas come out).
Choosing Paul Ryan -- another example of pandering to the far right where he does not seem to be comfortable.
The question that seems to be on more and more people's minds is what will it take for the Republican Party to reclaim sanity?
Karl Rove -- we all know his tactics.
Grover Nordquist -- I've been reading that "the no tax pledge" is no longer being taken as a mandate and some candidates are refusing. That's a start.
Ralph Reed -- Scarier than the other two put together. I saw a segment on him.
Want a *shock*? It's not even remotely about God or religion. It's about $$$$$$$$ to the millionth degree.
They just exploit the fear-based social issues/God is in the Constitution lines to get unsuspecting citizens to buy the lie.
Will they self-destruct?
Will they be brought up on criminal charges?
Will the people of America wise up and revolt against them?
Or, is this how the party is going to be from now on?
Ralph Reed is a self-proclaimed evangelist. He, Grover Norquist, Karl Rove, and Jack Abramaoff were all involved in the Indian Casino racketeering game . Jack went to prison and the others were able to escape. When they were in college together, they formed a group called the College Republicans. Their goal was to create a lot of money for themselves and so far, they have been very successful. Great comments and great questions. I just wish people would wise up to what these people are really about. But then again, that's what faith is all about, whether it be religious or political. The evangelical mind set is easy to brainwash.
"The evangelical mindset is easy to brainwash."
I bet you will get pushback on that comment that there is an "evangelical mindset" on the left, as well. And perhaps there is.
Still, it's asolutely abhorrent (to me, anyway) to exploit religious beliefs for their own personal gain. I've often wondered how people could be made to vote against their own best interests. Well, now we know.
People do cling to their guns and religion when someone insinuates to them (especially if it is their pastor!) that those FREEDOMS are in jeopardy of being taken away by the "bad guys."
No apologies for stating that fact!
I've been saying for a long time that The Republican Party uses the social "hot buttons" (mainly abortion rights and gay rights) to garner votes for their own agenda, which, as Mighty Mom relates, is not about God or religion, but money. I hope enough people in America wise up and revolt to keep them out of the White House and start "house-cleaning" of the GOP in Congress. That's probably wishful thinking on my part....

Worried about Obama's publicity on relief effort in New Jersey the Romney camp cooked up a phoney hurricane relief effort with supplies purchased with campaign funds at WalMart which were given to supporters who brought them in to a staged donation at a Romney campaign headquarters. Romney is less...

I've always said that I didn't think Mitt would win in SC, and now Newt is ahead in the state in several polls. The GOP has gone so far to the right that they don't want a moderate. It just boggles my mind that any reasonable person could back Newt. If you think we have gridlock in Washington now,...
