The social, professional, and recreational world in which we live is largely facilitated by communications technology- but have we taken much time to stop and think about the technology itself?

Let’s take a moment to stop and think about what all this technology actually does- and the important details we should know about it. This week, I challenge you to delve into the fascinating world of communications with Hubs on wifi, broadband, cell phones, communication protocols, the history of communications, and more.

Don’t have a particular Hub in mind? Here are some search-friendly titles to consider using:
    The Lesser-Known History of Communication
    Basic Communication Protocols
    What is Wifi?
Best Tools for Finding Free Wifi
    USB Wifi Devices
    A History of Phones
The Most Important Business Tools for Communication
    Mobile Wifi 101
    The Best Wifi Phones
How to Set Up a Wifi Booster
    Communication Protocol 101
How Broadband Internet Changed The History of Communications
The Spread of Broadband Internet Access
    Radio Communication Protocol
    History of the Telephone
    The First Telephone

To create search-friendly titles of your own, follow the steps outlined in this Learning Center guide.

If you'd like to join in on this week's topic by writing a Hub, follow these steps:

    1)    Stop by this week's Weekly Topic Inspiration Question.
    2)    Click the green button "answer this question".
    3)    Click the gray button below the box (leave that empty) that says "make a Hub about it."
    4)    Give your Hub a very specific title, like Easy Summer Gardening Projects for Kids or Challenging Summer Activities for Teens
    5)    Create good quality original content that hasn't been covered before.
    6)    After you publish your Weekly Topic Inspiration Hub, come back to this forum thread and post a link to your Hub with a brief description of what you wrote about and why.

For more information on the Weekly Topic Inspiration program, check out the Learning Center guide.

Oh, and do you want your WTI Hub to have a shot at becoming a Hub of the Day? Make sure the images are legally used and properly attributed!

I have written a Hub on how communication technologies have contributed to deaths of individuals. I have focused on deaths related to cellular phone (and other technology) use while driving, cellular phone and headphone use while walking, and deaths related to excessive MMORPG gaming.

"With greater power, comes greater responsibility..."

p.s. I keep neglecting to hit "Answer Question as a Hub." I am really bad at this. I guess I just keep getting excited to write, so I sit down and write then submit it. I hope I have, and can still be considered part of this weekly topic!

Hahaa, I love the creative approach! This is not at all what I would have expected to see, but you make a good point that new communication technology brings a new set of hazards, and I definitely bet people will be interested in reading the Hub! Well done.

I also love the way you cited sources- I'm all for linking to additional information! Should you like to give those a more polished format, consider presenting them in a Links Capsule. wink

        KathleenKat,

I really like your idea. I never would have looked at the subject that way. You totally get my vote for a great hub challenge idea. I can't wait to read what you write about. Sending happy writing thoughts your way.

This is fabulous!  I had no idea that Samuel Morse was a painter first.

Me neither, apparently he was quite successful as a portrait painter. That makes me think that would be a great hub to explore...the paintings of Samuel Morse.

          Thanks for the idea!!!

What about doing something on non-verbal communication? Like the history of sign language, or something funny like how botox is destroying our abilities to communicate with facial expressions : )
