In which country 50 million people are food insecure?

   And among them, 17 million children?
   When its military expenditure increased by 80% from 2000 to 2011 reaching 711 billion dollars, 16.4% of its population are starving! Why this paradox? Did you guess the country?

      Well since I distributed two pamphlets over the weekend to people looking for food pantries, I would say it is the U.S.A!
      
      I actually met two different people this weekend that did not know where their next meal would be coming from, luckily I always keep a list of charitable entities that give out food. There is a different one for each day of the week!

      Yes, it is.  We can't call ourselves a rich country as long as this many people don't even know how they can meet their budgets. I'm having a tight time of it, and am thankful that I have a yard to raise food in, and live in a part of the country where I can go to u-picks and get reduced cost fresh food. But there are a lot of people who don't have these conveniences available to them. Our schools have become the best consistent source of food for our children. When did that happen?

   It is a serious matter that seems to be ignored by the media, by our candidates. More and more people face poverty and we are spending billions to support a fictive terrorist fight. The money that inflates our budget comes from my pocket, from another's sweat, it should be a natural right  and the duty of our government to secure those 50 million people from food insecurity.

      And we shouldn't care for their profit. I lead my own crusade against corporations. It's out of question for me to nourish the beast whereas it's clear that it lives for its own interests. I developed my own shield against their "temptations" and I am becoming as selfish as they are concerning where my money goes.

         People on the west coast seem very angry at corporations and the engines of capitalism. Yet they will give millions to politicians but forget their local food pantry unless they can take it off of their taxes

            When an outsourced company pays less taxes, pays lower salaries... then comes back to sell the Americans their finished product at its higher price, it triggers anger, doesn't it? I've never felt like being a pidgeon.

               No it doesn't trigger anger in me. Because I'm an american and I have choice and I choose not to buy the out-sourced foreign product.I also give to local charities without expecting a tax deduction. And politicians can fend for themselves.

                  We shall shake hands, then. I fully agree with your choice. However being American doesn't allow you de facto to choose. As I titled my forum, 50 million Americans are food insecure, you are lucky not to belong to this fringe of the American population.
