Looking for suggestions.

   Can anyone suggest some reasonably priced video editing software.  Also, I am looking for software to record sound, a nice multitrack mixer system,  I am looking to record guitar, bass, and programmed drums.  It would be awesome if I could find one product to do both.
   
   
   My ultimate goal would be to edit my videos and upload my own music for the background.  This is a new endeavor for me,  have the ideas, I have the funding, now I just need the tools and the knowledge.

   What is your OS?
   There is a bunch of opensouce and I tried a few
   You may have had a CD of a program that came with your digital camera called ArcSoft Video Impression to get your feet wet,
   
   Some stuff is easier to do on one program and other stuff on another program.
   
   The free ones I tried are Movie Maker, (for linux): Avidmux, Cinelerra, Pitivi  but for some reason searching in hubpages no longer displays my hubs yet on google they do. (sigh)
   
   For windows only I like Video Edit Magic. It all depends on what you really like to do. I like to take pictures of the clouds for 30 minutes and squish them down to 8 seconds for that I use avidmux
   
   Also if all else fails, YouTube has some video editing once upload.

      Thanks< I am going to check them out. Will check youtube right now.  My OS is windows vista, at least on one machine.  I use a few different machines though.
      
      I am trying to edit, splice, to be honest, I am a complete novice, but I have ambition.  Thanks for your reply

   Hi RB, I know you can edit/splice in Movie Maker, I have that in my Windows 7, thinking you may have it too in Vista, not sure. Once you've made your 'movie' you can upload it to You Tube, that's what I've been doing on the couple of video projects I've done.

      I did not even think of that, you are correct, there is Windows Movie Maker on this PC.  Sending you tons of gratitude.

   I like using Audacity haven't figured out the whole program yet but so far only shortening tune clips. It's free too awesome stuff though.

      Thank you so much, Audacity sounds like a great place to start.  I might as well provide my own background music for video.  I do not even want to contemplate the copyright issues of using other's music.

   Final cut pro is very good and I'd say fairly priced. To me it was worth every penny. If you have mac, garage band could record your music, you'd just need decent mic's and so on. Not sure whetehr garageband would be a powerful enough tool for you.

   Adobe Premiere Pro is included in both.
