I've been trying to find an answer to something but seem not to be getting anywhere. Forgive me if I've got this wrong but my understanding is as follows.
If I choose to take hubs out of 'idling' when they haven't been approved yet, they get stuck with a 'no index' tag and then Google won't send them traffic.
What happened was this. I wrote several hubs and because I didn't want to wait 24 hours, I removed the 'idling' status. I think that is what I did. What happened is that I didn't get any traffic from google for about two weeks. I think deleted those hubs, uploaded them again (identically), waited for the 24 hours, and within hours I was getting hits from Google.
So my question is this: How long is that 'no index' tag on?
Why are we given the option of removing the idling tag if the 'no index' tag is put on. It rather defeats the purpose?
Is there any way of the hub being indexed without deleting it and doing it all over again?
Please note that I do not call views by other hubbers as traffic so I'm not talking about hub traffic.
Thanks
You didn't take hubs out of idling, because that is impossible for us.
What you maybe did was allow your pending hubs to be shown on your profile.
This is highly inadvisable, because the googlebot can access your hub from your profile, see the noindex tag, and leave.
It might not come back for weeks or months.
The noindex tag is there for 24 hours, whether your hub is actually rated/checked or not, after that your hub automatically goes to featured unless it was rated and deemed low quality, which it wouldn't be in your case.
Now if the googlebot saw your hub, and saw the noindex tag, it will come back eventually, but your hub will not be indexed until it does.
Unpublishing and re-publishing is not really an option.
It is better to hide your new hubs completely in their first 24 hours. Don't promote it to Facebook, Twitter or anywhere else. Ask your followers not to either.
If the googlebot does visit your hub within its first 24 hours, and you can now see if it has done so on your stats page, then you can use webmasters tools to manually ask Google to index it (once it is featured), or ping it, or even give it a major edit, anything to bring the googlebot back.
Hope this helps.
Totally stupid system IMO.
If you hub become idle and is no-indexed, as far as I know it will stay that way forever or until you revise it and it is reassessed.
Okay, but this is not explained in the explanation about idling. I would have liked to have known that. Actually, I don't think that is accurate either. If one doesn't let it wait the full 24 hours after it has been edited, the index tag would still remain. The point seems to be that this is not a choice. Either one waits the full 24 hours for HP to assess the hub or they never permit google to index it.
While I appreciate that HP have a business to run and they don't want to offend anyone, I prefer things in simple, straight langague so that I can best adapt to it instead of wasting a few weeks learning that the hard way.
I am not really sure what you are saying.
Newly published pending hubs are no-indexed until they are assessed and generally allowed to become indexed.
Idled hubs are no-indexed and stay that way until revised and assessed and generally allowed to become indexed.
The only thing hubbers can do is revise idled hubs, everything else is beyond our control.
You say, "This is highly inadvisable, because the googlebot can access your hub from your profile, see the noindex tag, and leave."
Exactly. And that's not the part I was told.
I'm not unpublishing. I'm deleting. That's a completely different thing.
I'm not really sure what your issue is. If you are deleting your hubs then none of this is an issue. If you are removing them from your profile that is a good idea.
In any case it would be a good idea to get any idled hubs out of idle and available for indexing.
The issue is resolved. I have no choice but to let new hubs I write pend for 24 hours. If I don't, they simple will never be indexed by Google - ever because HP puts a 'no index' tag on it. I never understood that because it wasn't written very clearly. Instead the wording was that HP would check to see if it was quality writing,
So I deleted all the hubs that I had put on my profile while in idle mode. As you said, that now no longe a problem.

The Googlebot visits new hubs within 30-60 minutes while they are in 'Pending' mode and the NOINDEX tag is in place for 24 Hours. This means that the bot does not index the page, and does not return for days or weeks. New pages do not get indexed for days or weeks. This causes lost traffic and lost...

Please can someone explain to me why, if one decides not to wait 24 hours to put up one's hub, one then has to wait three or four weeks for Google to index. This has absolutely nothing to do with Google, but has everything to do with punitive action from HP.

I did a little experiment with opting into the EC program for three months. To begin with, last year one of my better performing hubs become Editor's Choice. That hub was getting an average of 20o+ views per day, peak. The day after being selected as EC, the views dropped to zero. I watched it for a...

I love HubPages, I feel that I have learned so much here and my confidence in writing non-fiction took such a huge leap when I was invited onto the Apprenticeship program last year. I have met some wonderful people here - both staff and other Hubbers. But as may other people have said, the idling...

Hi, I am new to HubPages, but I've noticed some of my hubs are indexed on Google and some are not. One of the earliest ones I posted (over 4 days ago) has a little 'traffic falling' arrow next to it. I tried to search for it on Google, and despite it having the 'featured' symbol next to it on my...
