Please don't stick us with a damned word verification in order to login. I intensely HATE those things. I already login every few days rather than having the auto login. Why do we now need more hoops to jump through????

A new thing? Great. Hopefully, just a cookie issue.

Oh, your kidding. I got froze out on a site today because I kept putting in the wrong letters. My eyes are bad I can't see the letters very well. Just one more thing to put up with.

Sorry you are having issues related to CAPTCHA text.

Unfortunately, CAPTCHA and other such technologies are a necessary evil as they prevent the site from being overrun by automated SPAM bots.

You may want to upgrade to the latest version of Chrome (the version you are using is one minor revision older) and clear you browser cache.
You can find these and other troubleshooting steps here:

Can HP at least use a system the real people can work with? CAPTCHA doesn't even fool the spambots 100% anyway. But, it really messes me up. There are choices other than word verification. The picture idea is nice for the general public and those with low vision. While fighting the bots please don't forget we aren't bots and can't invest in bionic eyeballs to see these things better.

Will look at updating the browser. I checked it last month actually. I dump my cache about monthly just to get rid of needless cookies.

Other than going for the beta version, my Chrome was up to the current version. The link you gave doesn't really offer anything relevant to CAPTHCA on HubPages. But, I'm still glad someone from staff posted some feedback here.

Probably just more needless change for the sake of more needless change.

I hate those things too! Ugh, don't tell me HP is gonna start doing that?! Seriously? I have to do that at enough websites as it is.

Wait until your next login comes up. Mine came up with the word verification. I tried ignoring it but it wouldn't go away.

I've logged in several times since you've brought this up, and I still haven't has to do the verification login. Maybe it's my web browser? I use Firefox, so maybe it's that?

I haven't had it several times in a row now. It's not a web browser thing.

You mean I am not the only one who looks and can always find at least one letter that I cannot decide exactly what it is. I guess even signing in could take a bit longer from now on.

They accept several different answers as correct.  If it looks like a letter "i" to you and an "l" to someone else, it will accept either one.

Personally, I prefer the simple addition problems like "twelve plus two equals."

      1. That Grrl profile image73
That Grrlposted 11 years agoin reply to this

I like the ones where you just click an image. It asks you something simple like: Which one of these is the camera? Then it gives three images - a dog, a shoe and a camera. I don't have to figure anything out or squint to read jumbled letters.

But, really, what is the point of word verification to login? Logging in over and over already annoys me. I prefer the auto login. No one else uses my computer and I can change my password if I really want to.

I always have a hard time recognizing at least one letter or more, sometimes an entire word...yeah...so I'll keep refreshing until I get one I'm sure of. Either way, it gets annoying when all you want to do is log in.

There are a pain, but there is a margin of error in all capchas.... or is it captchas?  Well, anyway, there is a margin of error, so like if you get one letter or number wrong, it should go through....One would hope, according to what I have read, anyway, lol.

A pain in the you know what however which way it goes... Not needed.

One of the words is password and you must get it exactly right.  The other is Captcha using you as a free digitlizer of scanned texts.

Sometimes they have a sound option but they are often an audio version of the blurred letters. It is just a test really to make sure that only super humans survive in the future smile that is a joke, I hope.

I had the login come up last night again, with the word verification. I got annoyed and just left the window open without logging in. Hours later I came back, refreshed it and the word verification was gone. I just had the regular login.

Maybe they took it off the site or maybe this is how you can login without being stuck with it. Time consuming but do-able. Maybe. I only have so much time to work on this site after all.

I've logged in twice since you've made this post about the login verification, and it didn't show up for me. So, I'm glad but confused as to why some people would get it and some not?

How do you sign in without getting the CAPTCHA/ word verification? I'd be glad to sign in the regular way. So far I don't seem to get that option.

I am concerned about what appear to be a vast number of 'Buggy' issues with this site... so many different negative things that influence my account... eg: EVERY time someone new follows me - I lose someone else, so the number of followers goes down instead of growing.  I have found that there are at least 50 people that I followed previously that have been removed from those I follow, unbeknown to me, but giving the appearance that I have dumped them... which I haven't!  All my short URL links to over 50% of my hubs have been 'turned off' and all list now as 'Bad Links!'

But with Logging In... I am really unhappy about this one:

    http://s4.hubimg.com/u/7449767_f248.jpg

This Warning I take seriously as it allows 3rd Parties to view passwords and content... Every site caught up in phishing scams trigger this warning and it often also indicates the use of a proxy server - which are effectively another party 'looking over your shoulder' while you navigate the site.

This encryption warning Also Comes Up whenever other supposedly 'Secure' pages in HP are accessed - eg Earning Details.... Google and Affiliate Settings etc.  roll

It's Not Good Enough for a site like this that offers a https Log in - There is Nothing Secure about this Log In and this seems to have been the case since this Ning Glam Social addition.... So HP - What's the Deal huh?  Why is our Log In no longer Secure?  sad

I vote no! I am having a hard enough time constantly signing in when I close my browser. It doesn't matter that the "stay logged in for 48 hours" is checked, I still have to sign in every time I close my screen. This would just make it more annoying.

Check the settings on your web browser. Make sure you have cookies turned on enough for it to save your logins from one time to the next.  Also, refresh your web browser and let it get rid of the old storage. You might notice it runs a bit faster too.

Go to the 'Tools' menu, and select 'Options'. Click the Privacy tab, make sure 'Accept cookies from sites' is checked. If you don't like to keep cookies after you shut down Firefox, you can select Keep Until: [I close Firefox].
If you want to keep the cookies from Hubpages, (or any particular site), you can click the Exceptions button, and type in http://hubpages.com in the window that pops up. This way, Hubpages cookies will remain while others will be deleted when you shut down Firefox each time.

I found it by clicking Firefox > Options > Options > Advanced > Network

There is says Cached Web Content. You can use Clear All there. You can also clear the user content  below that part for web content. User content will include cookies for your passwords.

You could use a system with one password that just provides security, not a system that makes us digitize words for a company that sells that service at a profit.

I had a comment earlier from some Spammer who created an account just to spams could be sent to other Hub account holders. And if you allow your hubs to be commented on by folks outside Hub pages, you will be spammed and lots of spammy links will appear in your hub comments.

Solution: use a system like Captcha to filter the dirt from your comments and stop spammy annoying people from muddying your hubs. It is a necessary evil so we can have good hubs that don't suffer from the same crap other websites suffer from. I saw a website the other day that had more than half it's comments with spam links to other sites that were mostly viagra or adult material. It's pretty desperate. Most blogging forums have this kind of security added already. We have to join the party.

Fixing the browsers to allow cookies to "flow" between hub Pages and us is relatively straight forward. Fixing spammers is more tricky but it can be done.

    1. That Grrl profile image73
That Grrlposted 11 years agoin reply to this

The only real way to "fix" comment spam is to moderate the comments rather than accepting any and all comments which are posted to your site. If you see a site or blog with comment spam that is because the site owner is not moderating the comments. It's not a software problem it is a lazy problem. I moderate all my blogs and the comments I get on this site. I don't have comment spam. I don't use CAPTCHAs or word verification I just use my own brain and fingers to moderate the comments myself.
